Does anyone have any experience with this website, either as a nanny or an employer?

I am looking for an after school nanny (yes, I know how difficult this is going to be) and I'm going down the cheaper routes before I hit the local agencies. There are a couple of nannies I might like to contact on there but I wondered how successful this site is? Or if there are any other reputable sites I might look at?

Thanks

Contact your local authority and see if they have a list you could see. They check for Ofsted certificates and such so you know what you're getting

As a nanny I feel that sites with a lot of visitors are well worth using, particularly if they focus on the childcare sector.

If I was looking for a nanny job, I would look on:
Childcare.co.uk
Nannyjob.co.uk
NetMums local Childcare

It will cost you very little compared with using an agency to contact nannies via these sites, so give it a go and if you don't get the result you want within a couple of months, then downgrade the account to a non-fee based one, so you still have an advert but not the ability to contact people (though they can still contact you if they are paying members).

Well worth joining childcare.co.uk. As a nanny its where I have found most of my work including after school roles.

Good luck

Newtothisstuff · 24/03/2012 19:24

I found my childminder on childcare.co.uk and when DD2 is born I'll be advertising again Grin well worth the money

nbee84 · 24/03/2012 19:54

I got my current job through childcare.co.uk Smile

Karoleann · 24/03/2012 20:19

I've never found it hugely successful (although I've an ad on their at the moment). Saying that though - I prefer nannies to contact me rather than the other way round.
It's significantly cheaper than using an agency.

SandStorm · 24/03/2012 20:22

Thank you - it certainly sounds like it's worth a try. I shall pay up and start the search in earnest.

As an aside though, I'm aware I've got a good six months - am I looking too early? Do nannies know by now whether they will be available in September?

I agree with Nick that when looking either for full time or just a babysitting job
most of my friends and I would look on childcare ,netmums and Nannyjob,as well as going through agencies We all do look on these sights. One of the best jobs I had,a job with newborn twins was just an advert in the local paper

eurycantha · 24/03/2012 20:38

As an extra thought ,when I was working in a nursery 8 until 12 I also worked as a nanny from 2.30 until 7pm.This actually worked very well as in the holidays when my nursery was closed I was able to have the children all day.Maybe you could put feelers out at local playgroups, nurseries.that provide just morning sessions.you may find someone interested ,they should then already have first aid and CRB and a reference.

Looking for a part time nanny in Epping area from July - how do I go about it?

Any advice or interest would be well received, I am new to mumsnet (tho not a brand new mum) but am not sure how to go about searching for someone!

MrAnchovy · 29/03/2012 15:02

Mrsroundbottom the Local Authority only knows about childminders, they have nothing to do with nannies.

BlackSwan · 29/03/2012 16:12

I recently joined that site & what I don't like is that I get messages when someone looks at my profile (presumably they get a message when I look at theirs). Which just seems a bit creepy.

brazenhussy · 29/03/2012 19:29

To ensure people dont know you have looked at their profile view them without logging in

BlackSwan · 29/03/2012 21:51

ohh.. you are a brazen hussey.

ceeveebee · 29/03/2012 22:00

Also you could try gumtree, either place an ad or just look at the listings of 'seeking employment' - many nannies list themselves as available (obviously if not going through an agency you need to be vigilent on any certificates you want to see and take up references)

timetosmile · 29/03/2012 22:02

I used the site and have found a wonderful nanny. It's far cheaper than agencies and had a lot of local people on it, many looking for part time jobs to fit round studying/other jobs etc.

Ash87 · 03/04/2012 10:47

You can always look up on big sites for part time nannies and also on student job boards, where students look for part time roles.

EnglishDoula · 05/04/2012 16:05

I have used childcare.co.uk for some time to find work as a maternity nurse and I've found it very effective, but obviously, it is up to both sides to satisfy themselves that they are happy with the potential family / service provider, as no agency involvement means that no reference checks will have been done.

Tarenath · 06/04/2012 08:31

I found my current position through Childcare.co.uk. Also, I don't think it's too early to start looking for a september start. There will most likely be some nannies who will be looking for a new position around then due to charges starting school etc and perhaps not being needed by their current employers.

Ash87 · 10/04/2012 09:44

Hi English Doula,

Some sites do offer reference checks too, let me know if you need them
