Voice union membership

I see that Voice, which calls itself 'the union for education professionals' has a membership category for nannies which costs up to £137 a year. How popular is this I wonder?

It was not very popular when they were called PANN. So I can't imagine it's any more popular now.

NCMA have a membership for nannies... don't expect they have that many members either.

What would a Union actually do for nannies, what would be the benefits?

If we want things changed at Government we can lobby our own MPs just as well as any Union or membership organisation can. Maybe they feel they will get more of a voice... maybe they will but Government will still ignore them, just as much as they ignore me.

I have nanny membership to the NCMA, but only because when it came time to renew my insurance it was slightly cheaper to join the NCMA and have their insurance than to renew with Morton Michel.

I get a magazine, email newsletter, invitation to meetings and discount in the NCMA shop. There is a nanny peer support network although I haven't used/looked into that yet. I don't think they have enough nanny members yet for it to be particularly useful, but I think if more people join it could become an excellent resource.

Do you mean NCMA Local - that can be joined by non NCMA members. There isn't much there yet.

What meetings do you get invited to?

I used to be a member of Pann, now voice. They were always really good, went on a few training courses through them and always found them really helpful when I had problems with my job. When they changed to voice I called them with a contract and pay problem, a family owed me a lot of money and they weren't helpful at all so decided £120 was a lot of money to pay for nothing!
