Nanny Employers: Monthly rather than Quarterly reporting to HMRC?

The FT has reported something about a change in reporting procedures for employers of nannies. Instead of telling HMRC each quarter how much has been paid, it seems they want to be told monthly. This change is not immediate, looks like it would be from sometime in 2013.

I cannot currently locate anything else about this. Can anyone find any other references to this change in reporting frequency? Also, how will HMRC determine if someone is employing a nanny, or not? A very small employer who has 1 employee, may or may not be a parent with a nanny. Maybe they don't need to... they just make it monthly reporting for all employers who have less than a certain number of staff. Anyone able to find the detailed info?

At a guess, I would say this would start following closure of SPDS (Simplified PAYE Deduction Scheme) which closes completely 5 April 2013.

Oops, i just posted the link myself!

There is nothing new here, it is just RTI (Real Time Information) which was announced a while ago. AFAIR the date for small employers to move over to RTI is in the second half of 2013.

Employers that use payroll agencies will not notice any difference, but the HMRC Online Payroll Tools and commercial payroll software will be updated to report monthly instead of once after the year end.
