Nannyshare - Pay- How do you know it's the right nanny?

Hello,

I have a nanny who is a little older than my just a few years, she doesn't have her own children and is an expert on child development. I have agreed to pay her £10/hour but from what I understand this is above market rate? And I am not happy with the situation a couple months in.

My neighbour is interested to set up a nannyshare and I am too. Does anyone know the going rate for a nannyshare?

Also if anyone can recommend what sort of nanny really worked for them. I almost don't trust my own judgment after hiring someone who has been negative and un-supportive. Have other mums been successful with older nannies, younger, same age, how did you know you found the right nanny?

I think it has been good for DD (16 months) to be one on one with a care giver in our home and I see that some of our baby friends who are in nursery seem a bit despondent now (not to be judgmental). I am interested in a nannyshare and it would only be one other baby but I want to make sure this is the right thing for DD. Any thoughts on this?

I realise this is a bit rambling so any feedback is really appreciated.

Thank you.

How have you established market rate and is the £10 per hour figure Gross or Net? To me £10 Gross per hour sounds a fairly typical rate for an experienced nanny in the South East, with higher rates in some parts of London.

The relationship between the employer and the nanny I feel is key, not the nannies age. Someone young or old could be equally negative and un-supportive (though what do you mean by that... any examples?).

A share I feel would cost more in terms of the nannies salary but you would have two families paying that salary, so cost per family could well be less than you currently pay if it were an equal share... such as using both homes 1/2 the time, same hours of care.
