Parent hasn't paid me

Im sure they've just forgotten, I don't think they would deliberately not pay me. But they are friends of mine and I'm going to find bringing up the subject of money really awkward.
How do I raise this with them?

They probably just forgot. You could ask in a way that sounds like you're concerned the money has gone into the wrong account?

Can you send an email/text that makes it look like you are sending it to all parents? Something like "Just letting you know that I've had a few issues with my bank recently, with payments not transferring properly. Can you let me know if it didn't work when you tried to pay me?"

Smarties789 · 02/03/2012 10:42

They pay me cash so couldn't really use that reason! Any other ideas?!

Why would you feel awkward?!
You're a business!
If you can't ask them for the money you really shouldn't be minding their kids
Don't mix business with friends is a good saying to follow !

Thanks, my friend (borntoshopforcedtowork) is a nanny herself recommended Little Ones? Does anybody have experience with the agency as a parent?

traceyinrosso · 02/03/2012 10:51

How about a text saying. Dear Parents, please can you make sure all payments are up to date by (insert date) to allow me to reconcile my accounts. My daughters dance teacher sends out something similar every now and again.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 02/03/2012 11:02

Just ask, don't feel awkward or embarrassed

Say, ooh I've not yet had your payment, will you bring it on Monday please

You might want to revisit your payment terms if this becomes an ongoing prob, if it's a one-off then smile and move on once you've been paid

NB there could be a whole other thread about the pitfalls of working with friends Grin

Gumby · 02/03/2012 11:04

If they're good friends I'd text 'hi hope you're having a nice day. Did you know you forgot to pay me this morning ? See you later xxx'

IAmBooyhoo · 02/03/2012 11:09

when was the money due?

HSMM · 02/03/2012 13:15

Gumby's text is a good one

randommoment · 02/03/2012 13:24

Not children but dogs (not sure how I ended up in this bit of the network...) but have had same problem - screw up courage, and say 'by the way, we were so busy chatting when you picked up babyxyz you forgot to pay me yesterday/last week/whenever it was'. Makes it clear that you know it wasn't deliberate and keeps it light so everyone can laugh about it.

'A reminder to all my parents re the £5 per day LATE FEE CHARGE, many thanks to those who have settled already'.

I had to do this last month to a parent who said as they were leaving 'oh, we will be a few days late paying this month, DH is overseas...'... I sent her above text and the fee was paid in immediately.

You are a business, money due is money due.
