But what if your own kids are ill? Mine have never been really ill thank goodness while i've been minding but not sure what i'd do if they were.If i had to tell a parent mine had d&v for instance and they deceded not to bring their child i wouldn't get paid would i? Or can i say to parent it's their choice to bring or not and i want paid anyway? What do you all do about that?

If you or family members have d&v, I would have thought you'd have to say the mindees can't come? Maybe I'm wrong on that but believed that to be the case. As for pay, it depends on what's in your policies. I say no charge for my illness if I choose not to work but half fee if they decide not to use me.

You can't take mindees if you have an illness like d&v, conjunctavitous etc etc as you would be putting the mindees at risk and therefor not following the national standards for health!

I couldn'd mind a few weeks ago as DD was ill, so didn't get paid for three days...........it is just part of the course of being a childminder I am afraid!

If there's any possible risk to the mindies or my children need plenty of my attention then I close with no pay. For part-time mindies, if possible I offer parents different days to make up for the lost time.

If my kids need to be at home but don't pose a risk to the other children (eg no longer infectious or other children have had same illness) then I give parents the choice of sending their child as normal if they feel comfortable with the situation but if they want to keep their child at home for this reason I don't charge.

my two are off today with flu virus so i ve not taken my mindees as its a risk to them to catch it.. and then they get ill so after incuabation time theyll com edown with it and theyll be off and there parents will have to pay me for the place still although im not charging for today as i cant offer services

I think i asked other minders opinions because although my kids have had the odd cold or sore throat they have never had anything infectious that can be passed to mindees. However mindees will turn up at times after having been sick or something else which is infectious and invariably my kids get it and i spend a weekend cleaning up sick.it just would/will annoy me if i have to lose money if my kids have caught it from mindees in the first place.I know mindees should not attend whilst ill and i do have a policy and get parents to sign but most of them dont abide by the rules.

I lost £200 for 2 days off with awful d&v after a mum left her ill ds with me! Made me so

HellyBelly · 07/02/2006 11:36

Was £200 as it was the school hols - annoyed other parents too!

It is really annoying isn't it? The worst offenders for bringing sick kids are the ones who nod their heads and say oh yes we would never bring wee whoever when she's now well. Then they sign the policy and 2 weeks later they bring mindee with stomach bug??? Are they mad? A parent once brought her child with impetigo and said the doc said it wasn't all that infectious and i could easily liik after her.Did she think i was stupid?? It is one of the things after minding for 10 yrs that i still have problems with and i once let a family go as they brought their child reguarly when il.I am pg at the mo so don't really want any bugs so will need to be strict with my parents.
