Advice on vomit - cms

I have a mindee who gags and vomits everywhere, every time I try to give him anything apart from puree. mindee is 15m.

My question is, how would you deal with this? I resent having to clean it up tbh, it's real sick not just baby sick, all over the area the other children are eating. and if he was ill I would call parents to take him away but I don't think he is.

Parents are aware he does this and talk about it like its a normal thing, but I have never come across it myself. Thing is they did tell me about it before I took them on. doh.

Advice good people?

Just give him puree?

Ask them to deal with weaning him onto lumps or take him to the doctors if you/they think it's a medical problem.

Honestly? I really don't think it's normal for a 15mo to be sick every time that he eats anything other than puree.

In your shoes I would send him home every time he was sick, and implement the the 48 hour exclusion rule.

Have parents taken him to the doctor/HV to find out what's going on? If not, then starting to send him home and stop him coming for 2 days every time it happens might spur them into finding out what's causing it. If there's a medical reason for him being sick then there might be something that can be done abotu it.

If the doctors find there is no reason for it, then you have to decide really if you want to keep him on, because if his throwing up is affecting the other children in your care (ie when he's being sick where they're eating at every mealtime) then it isn't fair on them and you might be better off giving notice.

I agree with Holy. The parents can do the bulk of introducing solids while you just offer a few items of soft finger food- soft pears, bread, etc. You can then still offer some solids, but feed mostly puree.

Thanks all, we have tried toast (big no-no) porridge (hurl) and apple (bluuurgh) so far. I can see where I went wrong with the toast and apple but porridge should be ok surely? too lumpy it would seem. Ripe pear and bread might be much better. and those rusk type things that sort of dissolve maybe.

You really need to work with the parents on this one. Explain to them the problem it is causing and ask them to test foods at home over the weekend so you can offer foods from a safe list. Is the problem at snack time or at a main meal. Get them to do a pack lunch of foods that he is ok with and then that will take the pressure off you having to think what to offer and waste food.
Also think about damage limitation, ie those plastic bibs that catch food and vomit!! cover the table with kitchen towel.

i also think that you should ask the parents to bring in his food, and work together at introducing new foods. what do the parents say? does this happen at home? how do they react to this gagging and sick?
i worked as a nanny for a whole family of kids who had lots of problems with being introduced to solids and one would still throw up at will until for over 2 years. his mum was a doctor and wasn't concerned... drove me crazy!! also does the little one do this from the first mouthful or like my little one sometimes when he had eaten quite a bit then one more mouthful and whole lot came back up!!

Yes it happens at home quite a lot, I think they just give him jars for 7months babies. They think it is normal, I don't!
Yes happens from the first mouthful of the thing he doesn't like, but usually got other stuff in stomach already (yuk) there seems to be loads anyway
