Not sure if this is the right board but would love some thoughts.

We already have a fantastic nanny who works 11h/d 5d/week, starting at 745am, which is as early as I'd like to ask her to come as don't think she's a morning person! At the moment it's not a stressful morning as usually both dh and I are around until after she arrives, and she doesn't need to leave to take the children to nursery until about 840.

In Sept my dd will start at a school which is at least a 20 minute drive away, in the opposite direction to ds's nursery. DD has to be at school by 830 and ds at nursery by 9, so it's not impossible for our nanny to take both but it would mean ds spending an hour in the car each morning, (not even considering afternoons) them rushing to get out of the house by 810 etc which doesn't sound good for anyone.

So I'd like to get some additional help each morning, and perhaps 3 afternoons a week to do school drop off/pick ups to make sure ds and nanny get quality time together for his last year before starting school. Dh and I may be able to do one school drop off each week but I certainly don't have a reliable diary so I would rather have backup. I am also going to ask the school if anyone else is coming from our area so we can do a rota, but so far they have not given us any names.

I'm thinking about either a housekeeper type who could also do some cooking/cleaning although we don't need someone full time, or an au pair who might do some activities with dd/ds in the afternoons to give our nanny more flexibility. Anyone any experience of 'nanny backup' help?

Thank you.

I don't have an answer but just want to say as an ex-nanny, now CM, I think you sound like a lovely and considerate employer.

You do sound like a lovely and considerate employer - i hope that your nanny realises how lucky she is! :-)
