Hello,

I woiuld really appreciate any info about what your mindees/ children do at a childminders after school. Is it all play based/ TV/ having dinner, i.e relaxing after school, or is there space for homework?

My lovely cm and I are trying to get the balance of her looking after the baby/ toddler full timers and my ds in reception.

Thanks

My after schoolers tend to just watch tv or play on the wii, then tea then home. None are interested in activities as they're too tired after school.

We either play in the school playground/park after school or come back for snacks then free play (chilling with the TV if they want) and then it's dinner time for those who are staying. That few hours after school is the busiest of the day and therefore there is no chance of me helping with homework, I find it hard enough getting my own Y4 DS1's homework done as he just wants to play with the others/chill after school.

I also don't help with homework I have enough to do with my ds when they all go home.

Thanks, that seems to be what my cm is saying. I guess I just need to invent another hour in the day to squeeze it in!

Good luck with that, afraid that's what us CMs also have to do and it always ends up being on the weekend :(

Board games, Library books (if they wish), drawing (very popular), lego, play dough + cutters, arts and craft.

Today took a trip to the library.

I offered change for home work. It was a challenge as some did not want to do it, even though the parent wanted that. In the end I refused to force any child to do something they did not want to do. That not my responsibilty, its the parents.

I love to have books books books. Got cm card which entitles me to 30 books I believe.

I always used to start with Countdown! Everyone loved that. They all joined in on that, regardless of age. Some spotted letters they recognised, others made 3 letter words and the bigger ones competed for the biggest words.

It's just a twist on watching TV, but it made a nic start to the afternoon.

Apart from that, Lego was the most popular.
