We live in NW London and our DD attends French primary school. Where can we go to find help for her?

Have you asked at the school... that would be my initial place to ask given that the school is specifically for the French community.

Could you advertise in a local shop window/notice board for someone to help. It may suit a local parent or a student.

You could look at ads from tutors on Gumtree

If you post the job details on the au pair facebook page, you might find a French au pair who would like a few extra hours?

Thanks nanny & single! These are great suggestions. The tutor we originally sourced through the school has been exceptionally awful.

We are new to London - so did not know about Gumtree or the special FB page! Will try both options. Wish us luck!

you could also advertise on childcare.co.uk for a french tutor

Slight hijack - is that the new CBFL? How are you finding it?

Ici Londres is also a good starting point. Is she a native speaker? How old? What sort of thing is she struggling with? If she's just gone into the French system and is above CP but still primary then it might be worth getting some cahiers de vacances for younger children to work through. If she's secondary then you can get get soutien scolaire for individual subjects.

Thanks iluvkids! Fraktal, DD is in primary. Not a native French speaker - but have only ever been schooled in France. She struggles a bit with reading in French at age level. We love CFBL. The teachers are caring and very communicative with the parents. They are also a bit overworked, I think. The backgrounds of the students (and their connection to the French and English languages) are quite diverse - so teachers must have scaled programs to fit children with different abilities in English and French.

Glad to hear it's a good school - it's one we're considering for DS if we move to London and can't get a place at the lycee itself (which is looking impossible even if you're sent there by the state who supposedly guarantee free, French education Hmm)

Pop over to language and bilingualism to get input from some very knowledgeable posters about encouraging reading at age appropriate level in French whilst keeping up the English, or put a shout out for bonsoir who will probably be able to reel off a list of French children's books for various ages.
