advice on childminder lying?

Hello! I really like my childminder but today, my DD (9 months old) came back with a very clear graze on her nose and bruise on her forehead. These are clearly visible - my husband who is abroad could even see this on skype! and we both know it was not there this morning!
CM mentioned to me that she has been putting cream on yesterday's fall which she claims is the cause of today's graze (I know about yesterday's fall) but to me, this is clearly not right - I gave her my baby this morning with no graze - and now she has one.
I know that babies fall and tumble at this stage and I don't mind her falling but I am so upset about being lied to. She seemed to be desperate to please and be perfect. I believe she is a very good CM and don't want to lose her but doubts are creeping in with this and a few other things - small -but again, same kind of thing - day in, day out - the diary says DD has had a perfect day (it's not possible!! - I know my DD v well and she has her moments!) Today's diary entry says there was no mishap - so it seems to me that she was keen to try and gloss over whatever happened.

What shall I do = ignore it as DD is fine and will soon get over the graze? = ask her about the graze - but she already told me this is an old injury (from yesterday) so I will be confronting her and upset her; and what is the point of challenging her - what good would it do? confront at the next incident??
Would be interested in your thoughts!! xx

Hmmm...I would say what you have said here....you know babies fall, and have bad days. You know your DD didn't have that graze on her nose when you dropped her off. .......Please could you be honest with me about what's happened during them day. In a light way.

grazes can show up more the next day or if the child's been outside in the cold

I would be interested to know whether your childminder recorded the accident which led to your daughters graze in the accident book; if ever one of my minded children fall and it leaves any kind of mark, I record exactly what happened and what led up to it.

It's very common for babies to hurt their noses, my question is, does your cm have carpets or a mat that your baby could get a carpet burn. If your baby lost her balance, within two hours of collection, her nose would scab over later and she may not have cried at the time. I am a cm too and the iron lady is right, I would record every accident or incident even,If there was no mark at the time

I wouldn't be sure she was lying. A bruise can become visible quite some time after the bump that caused it, and a small scratch or graze can also become more obvious as it heals. How sure are you that this is not just part of the outcome from the previous incident?

Alternatively, could it be that the CM accidentally scratched your child's nose with a fingernail whilst applying this cream (easily done but not necessarily noticed at the time if the child did not react), or that the baby has scratched her own nose? My own little one scratches herself (and me) quite often, however often I do her nails.

As for how your CM reports back on the daily routine, I think it would be fine to say if you want more detail (within reason) and to point out that you will not be alarmed or upset to hear that some days are less than perfect. But the fact that she is reporting that all is well is in my view more likely to be a reflection on her having realistic expectations and a cheerful frame of mind than any cover up. Much better that than a daily list of moans and complaints.

i would be more concerned as to what cream she is putting on, should she be administaring cream that is not prescribed for a specific reason or requested by your self?

Something similiar happened to me once: I used to look after a little girl who fall on the playground (She wasn't even running, just slowly walking and it wasn't a hard ground but the soft ones under climbing frames.) She fell flat on her face, didn't cry and nothing was visible (My aunt who is a GP was with me.) Two hours later after the incident and I was already home the mother phoned me and asked what happened to her daughter. I was like, she fall but nothing happened?! Next day I saw her her nose was swollen and she had two black eyes. I felt terrible. They took her to the hospital and the doctor said things like this can happen. Nothing was wrong with her nose, a week later she looked fine. Since then I tell the parents every little thing.
