Have pity on Grandma having to aquiesce to FTP exhaustive lists of rules

Any Grandmas out there having to listen to yet more 'professional' advice on how to bring up children, when all they need is love and attention.

well, I do have sympathy but some practices deemed okay in ye olden dayes are frankly scary

Aren't all grandma's following EYFS, with first aid certificates, insurance, etc .

My DD's grandma (and aunt) is there for love and fuss and cuddles.

I think parents have the right to decide how to bring their kids up, tbh. My own mother was very punitive - lots of smacks and shouting. She actually really likes doing things differently with my DS and said she wished she'd known it wasn't the only way, when raising us. But I would never have accepted it had she thought she could do that with my kids.

I dunno. I agree some people are crazily prescriptive, but my MIL is vehemently opposed to putting babies on their backs to sleep because, "it's all just fashion, it's all nonsense, my kids would never have slept that way, babies need to be on their tummies...." The cot death stats make it rather plain she's wrong. So I suppose I agree with boysarelikedogs - what are you annoyed by, exactly?

(I'm assuming you look after your GC regularly, btw. Occasional GP, and it's treats and cuddles all the way!)

So called child care experts advice is like fashion. It all comes around again. Penelope leach was spouting on the radio on Monday that eyfs is too prescriptive and children shouldn't be judged too early against targets.

The recent riots have been blamed on us not smacking our kids.

I brought up my own 4 Dcs my way and after having dc2 ignored all fashionable child care advice, mostly bollocks anyway.
