Stand at the door and tell them to take their shoes off (please!) before they come in. End of story.

My CM always used to bring the children to the door. I very rarely went into the house.

Littlefish · 06/02/2012 18:02

If they are simply picking up or dropping off their children, then I think it unreasonable to expect them to take shoes and boots off. Buy some of those shoe covers that they have at swimming pools if necessary.

Do you have or mind any older DCs.
I feel a colourful "no shoes beyond this point" sign.
The offending parents need never know it applies specifically to them.

Popbiscuit · 06/02/2012 18:10

Our old child minder used to have a sign at the door and lots of empty boot mats down on the floor.

Get the DCs nearer to the door for pick-up.

Don't blame u, how bloody rude, I would say straight out 'sorry no shoes on in the house if muddy or snowy, it's unhygienic for the crawling children, actually put that in a letter to all parents. With some people u just have to be bloody direct, don't make a joke of it say it's a health risk and it has to stop.

Personally that's rudeness beyond belief.

HSMM · 06/02/2012 18:49

My mindees parents either take their shoes off, or wait by the door. Rather than say 'I don't want your mud in the house'. I say it is for cleanliness for the babies. They are fairly good about it now.

HSMM · 06/02/2012 18:50

cross post with thebody :)

thebody · 06/02/2012 18:52

Lol think same way but it is dirty and a bit rude of them.

ElizabethDarcy · 06/02/2012 21:42

A parent once brought a dead bee in on her stiletto... since then I have a no shoes inside policy. I usually have little one at the door anyway.. ready at handover, which makes things easier.

alibubbles · 07/02/2012 08:20

I have a lovely laminated poster on the inner front door, I've had all sorts of people take their shoes off without hesitation when they see the notice! ( My local MP!)

The thing is, they probably take them off in their own house, so why not yours?

MrsPotter · 07/02/2012 08:22

Stand in front of them, stare pointedly at their feet, don't budge till shoes are removed or they have at least stamped the snow off?
