Nanny taking own child to work - any tips

Hi everyone,

I'm in brain picking mode, 3 weeks this I'm back at work doing 7 - 5:30 3 days a week with a g6 & g3 and Zac who will be 3 months.

Does anyone have any tips for taking him to work (and fitting everything I need to take with me into my little micra!)

I'm guessing the idea will be to give him his first bottle at home (6am-ish) before putting him into the car to leave at 6:20, that way he wont be wanting milk as soon as I get to work. Work have got a monitor and hopefully a travel cot - although at the moment he does need rocking/settling to sleep, I'm trying to make this in his bouncy chair rather than in my arms! He'll only normally have a 30min nap between feeds, he hasn't yet developed into a short morning/evening nap and a long sleep after 'lunch'.

I'm guessing he will fall asleep in the car on the way home, we'll get home around 6:15 but at the moment him sleeping 'late' doesn't disturb his evening sleep when he'll sleep from 10 - 4:30 (OUCH)

And there's a hole other set of questions if I take the job I've been offered with a girl 2.5 & boy 5m! that will be like having twins - but not twins.

I feel rather crapy that my man is never going to be able to have his own routine and is going to need to just go with the flow and fall asleep where he is rather than have set naps in a set place sigh*

Thanks in advance.

xx

I would buy a cheap double buggy. It will be like twins which I think are pretty easier to look after. Your little man will be fine and will be a really adaptable baby and he still will have four days at home.

I've done this and it was wonderful! Your own child does end up coming second but my daughter never noticed because she loved playing with the other children and their toys and pets. Their home was like a second home to her and it was wonderful seeing the special relationship that the children formed whilst growing up together.

If you like both families equally I would go for the second one. It is a lot easier having two the same age. They tend to fall into the same routine so your son would get to have set sleeps rather than sleep on the go. It also frees you up to have some lovely one to one quiet time with any older children. You would also not have to bring so much baby equipment with you.

Children the same age also often have the same interests. Mine were a bit older and all loved trains. So they all loved playing with the train set, going on outings to the station and getting on a train, and reading Thomas books.

I would definitely second getting a cheap double buggy. Then you won't worry about cramming it into a titchy car like mine! A sling might help with putting him down to sleep. He could still be close to you and you would have both hands free.

The only downsides were my daughter spending more time in the car than normal and falling asleep at odd times. But having her with me more than made up for this. I was a much better nanny/employee for not worrying about my own childcare arrangements and being able to focus all of my attention on the children.
