Very quick question before school run.........if you buy a new sofa/arm chair purely due to hygiene reasons and it being better to have something wipeable, does this mean you can claim a % of the costs????

Be back later to check back.

TIA :)

Ha ha no. Could you, if necessary, demonstrate it was 'wholly and exclusively' for your childminding? You could offset a waterproof cover though.

Sorry - the ha ha wasn't meant to sound so snitty - just as in 'ha ha good try'.

LOL, no probs, it's what I thought anyway. Just something someone said as they know I only bought the leather one due to 'wee wee' accidents on the sofa and I thought rather than keep washing that, it was best to get a leather one (not my choice as it's quite cold to sit/lay on in the evening). Anyway, I said I was sure it wasn't allowed but that I'd check as would be p'd off if I'd missed something that was allowed! :)

Glad you didn't take offence there, Looney. I would think about getting something like a tarpaulin though, you can still put a couple of throws on it so it's comfy for little bums during the day. Don't forget - the wee will eventually soak through the stitching.

This is what is covered by your 10% wear and tear allowance so you can't claim any % of it (or if you do, you can't claim the 10% now or in the future).

looneytune · 30/01/2012 20:46

lisaro - not at all :) And good point, thanks!

MrA - that's exactly what I'd said, that I thought the wear and tear covered it! They just said that as I'd chosen that because of my job and not because I needed a new one, that a % was allowable but I'd never do that without checking and knew I'd get the confirmation I needed on here so thanks :)
