Holiday entitlement

I am probably being a bit dim. I am in the process of drawing up a contract for our nanny. She is working 33 hours a week over 3 days. What would her holiday entitlement be? The standard 5.6 or a bit less? I don't want to see her short so I want to get this right. Thanks.

3x5.6 = 16.8 (in practice 17) days. This can include any bank holidays that fall on her work days.

Thanks very much. That is what I had worked it out as but I wondered if she was entitled to more as she was working 11 hour days. Thanks.

You can calculate leave in hours. BusinessLink Holiday Calculator (if that link does not work, follow the link from Direct.gov)

33 hours per week = 184.8 hours
This assumes that the holiday year starts 1st January 2012.

That would be the minimum amount of holiday, so if you give more than that you will fine, so round up a bit to something that seems sensible.

If you calculate in hours, if they took a full day off work, you would count it as 11 hours. If they took part of a day off, you could count it as actual time, so for example taking 5 hours off if they worked 6 hours out of the 11 hour. Hope that makes sense.

The fact that their working day is 11 hours long makes no difference to the number of days holiday to which they are entitled. Their holiday day would be the same length as their working day... 11 hours.

Obviously it does make a difference in hourly calculation, as it is the multiplier used but it does not mean they get any more holiday than if it was to be calculated in days.

Example:
17 days holiday, or 187 hours holiday is the same thing when a day is equal to 11 hours.
184.8 hours is 16.8 days, if the day is 11 hours long.

Perfect sense, thanks. I was DEFINATELY being dim.
