Perfect Childcare for Night nanny

Hi all,

I am the proud mother of a three month old daughter and I would like to return to my profession as a night nanny / maternity nurse (nights only) and I am trying to find the perfect childcare for this. What do I need? Well, I do have a partner but he is away on business a lot so I can not rely on him.

My daughter sleeps through the night and usually doesn't wake up since she is eight weeks old. I am wondering if it might be possible to get an aupair that has the monitor in her room at night and only helps out with the little one when she wakes up + helps some hours during the day while I am resting.

Would that be possible?

Mmmm you would need someone more competent than an au pair I think. You have various sleep regressions coming up, teething, all of the stuff you are presumably aware of by virtue of experience and an au pair is no substitute.

Plus 5/6 nights a week would be FAR too many hours.

I hate to say it but you might need to investigate other work options at least for a couple of years.

I went back to work as a maternity nurse when ds was around 11 months. Luckily I am able to work when dh is home or on the odd occasion ds went to his grandparents. I have to agree with Frak I wouldn't leave such a small baby with an au pair. What about asking around if any nannies need some extra work.

I have another job now (doing something entirely different) but I would be quite happy to do something like this. You will have to weigh up your options to whether it is financially viable though that probably tends to be up to what area you are in.

could you take your baby with you?

other wise night work only really works if OH is home or other family member will have over night .
because if your child is ill you just can not come home
so you have some one who take over fully (including hospital visit/calling dr)

I night nanny & my hubby has our son so it works out well, occasionally he can also go to my parents if needed for a night. Some cm's do overnight care so this may be an option for you? Also cm could keep her for part of next day if you need to sleep but I guess a lot will depend on how much you earn v's how much cm charges

Yes, I would say the same: an aupair is not an option. However maybe you find an afterschool nanny or a part-time nanny that could do the nights when you are working?

You are giving someone you expert knowledge to leave your own DC with someone thats got no experience thats odd.
