Driving on painkillers

my nanny is on painkillers, 60mg codeine, 1000mg paracetamol, 600mg ibuprofen. Currently off sick but potentially returning Monday. If she does appear should I stop her driving my children on those painkillers? She has already admitted driving them last week having had no sleep at all.....

I wouldn't think anyone would be safe to drive on codeine. I certainly wouldn't be able to drive safely having taken it. I would say no driving until off all pain medications.

The codeine, at that dose would certainly be a concern. Plus pain severe enough to need that dose of codeine would be a distraction for driving TBH.

She may not be insured if she had an accident too.

I have taken that dose and was nowhere near fit to drive FWIW (Not a CM, nurse)

Thank you- gut instinct telling me exactly that. Needed reassurance. More worrying is that she has never thought to mention...

By all means don't let her drive with that level of codeine in her system!! I'm suprised she's even contemplating returning to work if she needs that level of pain relief!

That's a lot of pain medication. I thought I took the maximum amount of paracetamol and min only says 500.

I'm not a nanny any more as I have my own dc and have arthritis, I take 10/500 or co-dydramaol which is 10 of codine and 500 of paracetamol. I do drive but then I have been taking them for years and only need to take them when I am in pain due to weather or doing to much.

If she is on that much pain relief I doubt she should be working. If she is not fit to drive is she fit to look after your children.

If she has a long term thing maybe getting her/him to come in for a chat to talk about how its going to work, what they can do is there anything you can do to help. Making sure she keeps meds away from children and knows how much she has on her ect This will help put your mind at rest.

My co-codamol is 60mg codiene & 500mg paracetamol; I can take 2 at a time, but rarely do

I couldn't drive if I had taken 2; but would say the pain is more of an issue wrt the driving
