Am I looking for a babysitter?

Hi,

I'm very new to the whole childcare thing so please bear with me. I'm wanting someone to come to my house one or two mornings a week for the next couple of months to look after my 6 mo DS. Sometimes I'll be in (upstairs working in the study), sometimes I'll be out. Ideally the person would have experience and some qualification (which? how much?) and be able to feed him on the occasions when I'm out. Is this a baby-sitter? A nanny? Do nannies work that part-time? I'm reluctant to go the childcare route and leave him in someone else's house this early on.

Also, we're in North London - in case that has a bearing on anything.

Any advice for where to start looking gratefully received.

For a 6month old, part time, temp in your home = a nanny or mothers help.
(Yes nannies do work part time, and there are lots of nannies out of work at the moment, being LDN based as well, I'm sure you'll have lots of applicants)

I would suggest a mothers help or maybe a nanny with own child could be an option.

I would advise you to look for a nanny who has specific experience with Babies of the same age and who also has a recent first aid qualification. You might also want them to have a recent CRB check.

If you want to shortlist nannies yourself rather than using an agency, you could try advertising on netmums (as well as the websites mentioned above).

Good luck :)
