how much for 7 days block?

I am registered for overnight care and have a meeting on monday with a potential parent. this would be for blocks of 7 nights as well as before and after school care for 11 year old twins.

i have space and would be quite happy to do this, sounds like a nice contract as my own lot love older kids. these blocks would be prob twice a month.

however, the parent suggested paying me £200 per 7 night block. this does not seem enough to me, i would normally charge £8.00 per hour for two siblings and while happy to compromise for block booking i am not sure what would be reasonable to charge.

any ideas?

Do you mean that you would have the twins after school, then overnight and drop off at school again the next day for a whole week? Then have them overnight at the weekend as well?

I would charge at least £200 and probably more just for one child, never mind about twoShock

The parent knows what they can afford but I would use a figure of £50 per night as a start and perhaps treat the mornings as an extra £10 per morning it will give you more to bargain with, but have a figure in mind that you are happy with.
Is she using vouchers?
Extra for meals? 2 x 11 year olds eat alot!!
School pack lunches to make?
after school activities to take them to?
I would offer a trial period so you don't get caught out on any extras.
What if one of the children are ill and need to be off school when you have other mindees?
What about school holidays?

So basically, the twins would live with you for the full week?

I'm convinced that I have seen this job advertised on the childcare website in my area.

As a childminder who does over nights,I charge £50 per night per child, so it would be £100 per night, and I would probably do a discount. Its a lot of time for them to be with you, and weekend as well.

I have three siblings who spend up to three nights at a time with me, and thats enough!!

Nowhere near enough - 35 hours a week (2 before school and 5 after school, presuming a 9pm bedtime) @ £8 per hour works out at £280 per week, even if they are late risers and only need 1 hour before school that is still 30 hours a week and £240. This of course doesn't take into account any overnight hours (not sure what you charge for sleeping hours) and doesn't include any hours for weekends.

thank you-yes booh you may well have seen this advertised!
i am thinking of £50 per night no packed lunch. not sure what to do about weekends to be honest.

i have lots of questions and will definately be doing short term contracts, month at a time as hours will be very variable. £200 not worth it i think.

7 nights so would be 2 days of 24hr care in there as well plus the evenings after school etc per 7 night block I would suggest a min of £400 for the 2 children for 5 nights and then the weekend which would be 48hrs worth of care charge at least £250/300 so in total I would suggest £700.

A nanny for that time would expect (well I would) be paid for her time even when children at school as would be expected to collect ill children from school etc - I would charge £1400 for 7 days thats for 1 or 5 children as charge per family. Most nannies would charge £1000 plus for 7 days care.

Obv charge what you see as reasonable and what is cost effective to you also - dont make yourself out of pocket to get the contract 7 days twice a mth is a huge commitment also thats 2 weekends a mth.

factor into a contract payment not matter whether used or not etc.

£200 per 7 nights is a mockery of the job you do really and an insult they would be lucky to get a local 15yr old to babysit from 3.15pm (collect from school) take home give tea and even just babysit til midnight for 7 nights for £200!!

eurycantha · 01/01/2012 14:13

I think that east midland nanny has said all I was going to say but I totally agree with her numbers for payment ,if they could even get someone to do this job.I would not do a weekend for £200.To me she is just taking the mickey out of you ,this is an enormous commitment for you, please really think about it and make sure you are being paid what you deserve [I ve just re read your post and it is for two blocks a month,I had thought it was one and that sounded a lot]Two 11 year old eat a lot as well and you are expected to provide all meals during the week and at the weekend.

MrAnchovy · 01/01/2012 14:50

£200 is far too little. A babysitter from 7 to midnight costs £30 a night which is more than that!

But this is not a nannying role - I presume they are expecting you to look after the kids at your house? And although they will be two more mouths to feed, and will need supervision for homework etc. it is not exactly 24 hour child care, for which I agree £700+ would be reasonable.

£50 weekdays sounds OK, perhaps £100 weekend days so £450 for the 7 days?

Perhaps they meant £200 each?

andthenshewasdone · 06/01/2012 23:02

thank you all. have renegotiated to £600.00 a month regardless with spending money for any weekends. time with me varies, this month will be 9 nights altogether no weekends. packed lunches provided by mum.

will be asking for thread to be deleted tomorrow as possibly too identifying.
