Hi I have a nanny due to start Thursday just for one day a week son has childminder for three days. Do I leave his lunch out or tell the nanny to make him a sandwich, I do not want him to have a cooked meal as he does not at CM so want to keep it similar. Would love him to get out in the morning can I say this or will I come across really bossy. Any advice from nannies would be great.

Agree with nanny nick re babysitter - ESP if kids are in bed it's easier to run the could send a substitute/ are Doing their own thing.
I think the area where it can be grey is If baby sitter also an employee or former employee .

Apart from the legal issues, I think you need to be much more assertive about what you expect from her. It can be very difficult for a nanny to know what their employers have in mind. I have just had my first job go completely pearshaped because my employer, who I thought was a friend, and knew fairly well, never voiced her expectations and I was always doing the 'wrong' thing, but was never aware. This built up and became particularly bad with 'house rules'. Are the children allowed to use a dummy? Are they allowed snacks - if so, what? Do you use a naughty step system, if so, what are the rules? I would perhaps write out a sample day, with timings so that you think through exactly what you want her to do.

Thanks adendbrot, thats a brilliant idea about a sample day Will say to her at the start lets be honest and open so hopefully will not get the same problems as you. Hope you have a nice job now.

Seems she can be selfemployed if I do not use her every week and it is adhoc, so will use her adhoc and not every week.
