Im in a dilemma. Im getting a kitchen extension done. I sent my form into OFSTED hoping they would start the process but they sent them back and said I had to wait until kitchen finished. The builder has told me he cannot start until mid Feb. Do OFSTED do checks then come out and visit because if they do I can risk it and send form in as builder is underway? He said he would take 5 weeks. Its just if I keep putting it off I will run out of money as Im on mat leave currently do to finish beg March.

im the same as you and i had OFSTED round yesterday they said it should all come through in about 4 weeks so i should be ready in time but what i was planning on doing and i still might if i cant get any children to mind straight away is to do an evening job just til your up and running. dont know about you but with a baby in the house and my pay already going down to half i cant afford to not have anything at all coming in.

was in a bit of a rush meant to add i wouldnt risk it, they came to see me before my health records were asked for and they still have to do my CRB which takes about 3 weeks, if they do visit and you are still in the middle of work they wont be very happy that they have to come out again.

thanks lovemygirls for that. if it takes 4 weeks ill be fine. if it takes 3 months im not but im a nurse so may do some night shifts at the local bupa hospital. its just i keep hearing horror stories about how long ofsted takes.

When OFSTED first visited - my playroom was unpainted with no flooring and no electrics

She just said that she assumed I would not use the room until the "bits" were finished

So it wasn't a problem

Well i had OFSTED around at the beginning of December ...and im still waiting for my certificate!!! Though i suppose gotta give them a little leaway as there was xmas and new year inbetween. Apparently its actually a social services check on my DP they are waiting on so not really OFSTED's fault. Called them on Monday they said it should not be long now but i fear that could be the age old question of "how long is a piece of string"

LoveMyGirls · 12/01/2006 14:02

nzshar i thought you would have been up and running by now still hopefully not long to go now, im keeping ymself busy now with designing business cards and flyers plus just being a mum takes up a lot of time my 15week old slept through the night without waking at all between 12am and 7am! so how come i still feel exhausted.....

i sent my application form out on the 12th dec and ofsted rang me 3rd jan and visited on 11th jan she said if all goes well with my crb and health records i should have my certificate in 4 weeks roughly.

HellyBelly · 12/01/2006 14:30

In my area they take around 12 weeks from receiving the application. I had my inspection very early on and was led to believe (by the inspector) that it would only be a few weeks. I had people telling me 'no way, there's always something to make it take longer' but I was confident that the lady was right. Well, I got my certificate at around 12 weeks Every time I phoned Ofsted, they led me to believe it wouldn't be long. Tbh, I think it's the CRB checks that take the time.

What I'm trying to say is please think it will take longer and then you may have a nice surprise if it's quicker (just don't want it doing your head in like it did me when I went through it )

Having said all that, fingers crossed you get them very quick!!

The initial registration visit can happen quite quickly after you have sent in your CM1 form. The visit is just a part of the checks that occur prior to you getting your certificate. Other checks tend to be what delays things... like others have mentioned the CRB Disclosure (for yourself and other family members aged 16+) - this can take a good few weeks.

Your health declaration I think still gets sent direct to medial officer, doesn't it (check your pack). You could get this sent off, so it's in the pipeline.

If you have not yet requested the CRB forms, could get those requested and filled out ready for when the registration visit is done.
