How do I ask CM not to give LO cordial?

He is 4 so it's after school I know it's only once a day but the dentist has already told him he needs to just drink water and milk. I know she'll say it's sugar free and something about him being the only one not having it but surely they're not supposed to give it at all are they? Are there any guidelines? Plus we're in the North West so no fluoride in the water and I honestly don't think the others would mind especially if evryone was just having water. I don't know why CM buys it anyway, must cost her a fortune. Also, DS2 just started there too, I have already told her I don't want him having it but I know once he gets to about 2 and eats with all the others he'll be having it.

i would just ask her not to give him it. if he is happy to drink water while the other children are drinking juice then she should give him it happily. i used to try and encourage the children to only drink milk and water by only providing that and nothing else but what happened was the children wouldnt drink it so wouldnt have anything to drink. all parents said that they would only drink diluted juice and they were happy for me to give them it so thats what i do now. most children just have diluted juice with younger ones having water as they dont no any different as have never had juice.

Just ask her? If she looks puzzled then follow up with the reasons why outlined in your OP. It's quite a normal request, I'm sure she'll take it in her stride!

Just ask her - surely it's not a big deal?
I wouldn't want my little ones having cordial - especially sugar free as sweeteners are vile.

You can only ask her :)

In my setting children are offered milk, water or diluting juice. I have been on an oral health training course (run by the Nhs) and they have advised that I only give diluting juice or fruit juice with meals or food as the way it is in the mouth it is less harmful when you are eating. Milk and water is available freely outwith meals/snacks.

I would do as she asks, milk or water is better for the child's teeth anyway. Our childminder support group which I run only offers water or milk for this reason. You can claim for under 5's from the milkman too.

I'm pretty sure when I did my cm training we were told we really mustn't give the younger children anything to drink but water or milk.
