How do I do the deed?

So I'm meant to returning to my 2day job at the end of feb, but have worked out I'm financially better off to stay on smp rather than pay for nursery for little man.

I've hardly heard from this boss since I went on ml, not seen them or had any discussion about seeing them even though I have asked 'when can I bring the kids Xmas prezzies over'

So I need to not wimp out and tell them I'm extending my ml to end July! (I'm sure they won't be happy)

I have the letter all written.

Do I:

  1. Post it
  2. Drop it in when I know they won't be there
  3. Text and ask when I can speak to them for 5 min and pop over and if they don't reply then just drop the letter in.

I'm such a wuss!!

(I'm a nanny on ml and I can't take my son to work with me when I return, not to this job anyway my other job are find with it)

Are you returning earlier to your other job?

glitternanny · 15/12/2011 08:53

Yes but have checked and double checked with ACAS that this is ok.

I can because they are considered separate employment - which they are. I get 2 lots of smp cos I have 2 jobs and I can start/end maternity leave independent of the other job and have 10 keep in touch days per employer.

Crazy but true.

i'd say 3...although if it was me i would probably drop a letter in knowing they weren't there because i am also a wuss.

Although it might be helpful to go and talk to them, take your little one with you, then it can't ever get nasty x

It's not just that, it depends when you started the other job (must be be on or before your qualifying week for ML) - which you have checked out in your case, but I wanted to flag up for others reading this.

... and give them another chance to allow you bring your son to work with you. Then you have done all that could be reasonably expected of you.

I tried 3 had it arranged and they cancelled so ended up emailing them as didn't want to wait until January.

They've not met my son and seem to have no intention to do so.

My god are you sure you want to go back at all? If they have shown such little Intrest in your son how understanding do you think they will be if you need time off or any reason because of him?

I'd be looking for a new family if I were you

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 23/12/2011 22:46

I'd be furiously job hunting if I was you - they sound bloody awful. Not at all because they don't want you to bring your child to work with you (that's entirely their choice) but the fact they have shown absolutely no interest in him and don't want to meet with you.
