Don't know what to do RE Ofsted?!

One of my two families needs me to be Ofsted registered. I said I'd be happy to do so. I had a months notice so I completed the core skills course about a week before I was due to start and started the proceedings to Ofsted a few weeks back.

My boss has been really on my back about it, keeps re-explaining the system of payments to me and telling me to keep calling which is fine, I told him last week I'd contact them on Monday as I wanted to give them a week to get back to me first. Called them Monday, my forms were sent straight back as my driving license cannot be used as evidence due to it having a different address to my current one. No problem, I'd send my passport instead. I had to work both Monday and Tuesday afternoons and had to go pick up some bits in town this morning but have spent my spare moments trying to find my passport. I have just turned my room upside down and cannot find it. Checked both cars too. I know that it is here with me I just need to find the bloody thing.

What can I say to my boss tomorrow though? They paid me a months wages last week out of their own pocket, even though I said that I am happy for payments to be held back until my Ofsted reg has come through, and last week he spent a lot of time going on about my registration and I spent a lot of time explaining that it is a waiting game! I have no idea what to say to him tomorrow, I can't lie and say that I sent it off as he's going on about calling them himself wrt my registration to help try and push it through, and they're due to pay me again at the beginning of Jan (to coincide with their pay day) and it'll cause friction due to that.

I don't know what to do Confused

Why did I ever agree to a job requiring Ofsted, especially on such short notice? :(

I know where you found it Grin How it got there is a mystery.

Ofsted registration can take many months. There is little you can do about that. Send the passport off tomorrow via Special Delivery (are they saying they have to see the original) or are you able to use the Verify service at the postoffice (not sure if they use that any more for checking ID documents).

Just say they didn't accept the ID documents you had sent, so are not sending others. As you say, it's a waiting game. Can they not stockpile the vouchers? Not ideal I know but you can't take the vouchers until you are registered and also then registered with the voucher company (that can take a while as well).

I found it within ten minutes of posting! What a twod I am! Now I've got to get my DP to send it off for me tomorrow recorded delivery and hope I get it back by Christmas Grin I have an idea of how it got in the printer, would have been an absolute fluke that it landed in the paper drawer (which was then closed) but it's plausible that it fell from the shelf above it Grin

Unfortunately they need to see the original because I don't know anybody down here who can sign off for the CRB, the bloke I spoke to on the phone was lovely and explained what I needed to send and advised Special Delivery which I never would have done otherwise! Verify isn't available at my local PO's which is a pain, I know a post master and loads of nurses and other professionals at home too but didn't want to wait until Christmas to get them to sign the documents.

They can stockpile the vouchers, but my boss is very against the idea of not paying me on time or fully, which is lovely of him and they are both truly lovely people, but frustrating in this circumstance! I think I must be the only nanny complaining that their bosses pay them on time Wink

Admittedly I left it late to originally send off the documents, I could have used my address in Essex for the Ofsted registration but wanted to use my one in Sussex so had to wait for the paperwork from the bank to arrive after I switched my account to here.

I'm hoping that Ofsted are going quickly at the moment, especially as the holidays fall over the weekends this year.

I know childminder registrations are taking matters of days or weeks not months at moment so you may be lucky just be honest with your employers tell them there was a problem with your identity but it's all rectified now

diamond2101 · 14/12/2011 21:48

Agree with nannynick - just tell them that there was a problem with your documents but its sorted now.

Hope you don't have to wait too long for registration. I applied and paid in late July this year but only received my certificate at the end of oct! I called them a couple of times to ask what the hold up was and they said they were waiting on my crb to come back.

NotTheBlinkingGruffaloAgain · 14/12/2011 22:12

I think your boss is being really unreasonable, it took me at least three months to get everything together sent off returned etc for the blinking process, which only benefits the employer anyway.

They could at least be a little more patient with you and I hope they are paying for all this and the insurance you will need the validate the registration certificate,
I would get the registration then leave them if they carry on with this impatient attitude YOU'RE doing them a favor.

By the way you could get fined for having the incorrect address on your driving licence all you have to do is go in to the post office with your current licence, pay them 22 quid and they will send off for one with your current address on- (THE FINE FOR NOT HAVING THIS IS £1000)

They could at least be a little more patient with you and I hope they are paying for all this and the insurance

But make sure you have paid for your own nanny insurance - it is not something that they should pay for as it will invalidate it if they/you should ever need to make a claim.

confusedpixie · 14/12/2011 23:32

Gruffalo (love your name btw!): I'm paying for it this year. I needed the job and convinced them to take me on as an employee (many nannies around here are 'Self Employed', the muppets) but will ask for them to pay for it if they want me to stay beyond a year. I had insurance already and pay that myself, it's something I see as a requirement (unlike ofsted) for myself to be honest (along with the appropriate cover for my car!)

My driving license hasn't had the address changed as I haven't yet got a permanent address, it's still registered to my parents address which I have been told by DVLA is fine until I get somewhere permanent (been moving every few months for 3/4 years now). Thanks for reminding me though, it isn't on my list of things to do when I do get somewhere Blush
