Becoming a childminder?

Hi all,

I have been a qualified nanny for over 12 years and am now thinking of becoming a childminder. Just wanted some general advice please, has anyone recently become a childminder and done the cypop5? Did it take long to complete? Also how long did it take in all to register? Also do you enjoy being a childminder any pro/cons?

Thanks very much x

Hi. The cypop is new so people may not be able to answer your question.

The things that I think are negative about being a cm -
parents who don't pay, your house gets worn out (I paint some walls every 6 months), your family can get fed up living inside a preschool environment, the stress of Ofsted visits, stacks of paperwork, the hourly rate is prob below minimal rate when you add up all the hours you do behind the scenes.

Why I love it -
I love children. I can arrange my own day/be my own boss, I love to organize and now I do nothing but plan and modify how to fit everything in my life. Seeing a child progress and knowing that you have taught them those skills. The times when parents thank you (some don't - ever). The parents who pay on time and even pay a bonus. Every day is different. I get to eat what and when I want (important to me as I'm dieting). The camaraderie of other cm. Being able to train constantly and learn new things each time. The warm feeling I get, many times a day, when a child gives me a smile or hug or invites me into their play.
