As it says in the subject line I am a complete novice when it comes to child care.
I will be starting a full time job in a couple of weeks. I need to be there by 7 so will have to leave home at 6.30. DD is not sensible enough to get herself up, dressed and fed all on her own.
How do I go about finding someone who will have her from 6.30 and drop her off either at school or at the bus stop for school? She currently goes on the bus alone so that isn't really a problem.

How old is your DD?? Do you have room in your house for an au pair? And do you need afterschool care?? I think your best bet is to advertise on childcare.co.uk...you may be able to find someone in your area who could do the couple of hours in the morning. Which area are you in?

Bossybritches22 · 22/11/2011 14:46

How old is your DD kreecher?

If I'm right you've just returned from abroad haven't you? I only say this as it is difficult to tap in to the local mums support network if so.Also it's a big ask as a favour every day.

A card in the local newsagent might find a nice local carer, or maybe ask the head of your D's new school?

Many schools do breakfast clubs now so it might just be a question of getting care till that opens at 8ish.

Is there a Mr Kreecher around to do childcare tag with you? Grin

Blimey, that was quick. DD is 10.6. No room for an au pair and DH is flitting back and forth between Antwerp and Warrington where we live.
I don't need after school, it is just the early start we need.
Her school doesn't have a breakfast club either.

Is there a sixth form college near you? It sounds like it could suit a big sister type figure.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 22/11/2011 15:24

I'm not sure. I will check. Would a sixth former really be interested in arriving at my house at 6.15 though? I can't really imagine it Grin

For the right money even my slothful teen would get up & out Grin

Is it every morning? You might be able to negociate the odd later start once you're settled in ar work.

Thinking along littlemiss 's line of thought, find a college near you where they do childcare training, & enquire that way you get someone who is at least half interested in kids & might appreciate the extra cash before going to college. They are also CRB checked to allow them to go on placement so that's an extra security.

I would be afraid that a youngster would let me down and I wouldn't be able to keep to my comitment....

CMOTdibbler · 22/11/2011 17:17

I'd put a card up in the local shop - its the sort of thing that might interest someone with grown up children, and as a bonus you could get an hour or twos cleaning/laundry/ironing done a day.

redglow · 22/11/2011 22:00

I reckon it would be hard to find someone to do the cleaning too.

Bossybritches22 · 22/11/2011 22:37

If I lived nearer Warrington I'd do it! Grin

Just the thing for a local mum-maybe one who has her own DC but has a DH /P to see to them for a few hours.

An0therName · 22/11/2011 22:40

with that timescale and out of "normal" hours - I would try all routes as well as card - ask the mums at school if they know anyone, gumtree, Fe college as bossybritches says, childcare.co.uk, maybe even ring nanny agencies -and some childminders might do it - or they would certainly do from 7.30/8

redglow · 22/11/2011 22:58

There are loads of jobs round this area like that. They cannot get filled without the housework.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 23/11/2011 07:06

Thanks for all your responses. Someone very clever is working on it for me.
Today I have to go over to drop my CRB paperwork off. I'll try to negociate a half hour later start. But, obviously don't want to rock the boat before I've even started.
Damn this economic downturn.

I'm looking for something like that for 3 mornings a week as a lot of nanny work here is part time and usually starts in the afternoons, so you may find a nanny willing to do it?
