I am desperate and about to collapse!!

I am trying to fill in the registration pack for becoming a childminder. I have only had it for 4 weeks now!! I have managed to complete the Statement of aims and objectives (by mostly plagarising everything I could find off the internet).

I am now on quesion 14. I am really struggling with making up a policy on promoting and respecting service users independence and choice.

Also privacy and dignity. Though could think of a couple of things to say here

I have not googled the protection of children yet, but would presume I would get all that info from the internet. Would also presume first call would be my Social Work office, or child protection officer.

Please could someone give me a good website to try or other advice. I have tried the Bromley website etc. but nothing on promoting and respecting independence and choice.

Hoping someone can advise me here or point me in right direction. Thanks.

Is it under a unique child? I don't have a policy on this but form may have changed since I registered?

Contact your local SCMA development officer and she will be more than happy to help. She may even come out to your house and help you go through it (as opposed to over the phone or email ) x

Yes might phone them on Monday, never thought it would be this complicated!! Hopefully someone maybe able to point me in the right direction over the phone.

I have never had any training in Scotland on child protection issues. Obviously I would use my common sense and phone my local social work office, or NSPCC, or think there is a national scottish number to report child abuse to also.

Just thought there would have been more help or advice somewhere on writing these policies.

But yes phoning SCSWIS would be a good start and will do so on Monday.

No not scswis, the scma. My scma local officer emailed me all the help I needed but I know she went out to some people's houses to help them.

Have you been on your induction training yet?

trickydickie · 20/11/2011 11:38

Maybe I have not read through all the info SCSWIS sent me. Was there something in there about induction training?

I just really want to get this registration pack filled in so as I can it sent away and start the ball rolling. I have had the pack for four weeks now and don't think I will ever get it finished.

Polly- thanks for your advice. Think I am being a bit thick with it all. I have now just reread the form from SCMA. Missed the bit about induction training. I presume I would need to pay for membership to the SCMA before embarking on my induction training.

Also if the training isn't for a month or so I will be frustrated waiting. As I said I was hoping to get the ball rolling by getting this pack completed. I suppose I just have to be patient.

No you don't need to be a member to go on the induction training. When I went none of us were members yet but we all went on to become cms apart from one lady who decided it wasn't the right career for her, she is now a carer for the elderly :)

Is the info on the sheet about the scma, does it tell you who your local officer is? (I can't remember as it was so long ago now lol) phone her up and tell her what problems you ate having and she will do her best to help you. and deinately go on the induction training, covered so much, Including marketing, settings your fees, risk assessments, how to deal with parents etc plus you get a certificate at the end of it and looks nice and professional :)
