Should I ask for more pay to work weekends?

Im a nanny looking after a 2year old 3days a week, i am on minimum wage which i agreed to and was happy to take at the start of the job. They have asked me if i am willing to work on a weekend if need be. Should I be asking for time and a half? Or just sticking to min wage?

Upto you but I wouldn't work for minimum wage on a weekend.

I wouldn't work for minimum wage at the weekend either. Usually I was paid 1,5 times my hourly rate on Sundays and 2 times on Sundays and public holidays.

1,5 times on Saturdays.

In other lines of work, I've worked weekends at near minimum wage (don't think NMW existed back then).

It was regular work though, not just occasional. My contract was to work weekends plus 1 day in the week.

You have accepted the job based on the days/hours of work they told you about at the time you applied. They are now wanting you to do some occasional (it isn't every weekend is it?) overtime. So I feel it is up to you to agree an overtime rate for that work.

Depends on whether you think they'll say yes. You have no legal right to extra pay but that doesn't mean you can't try to persuade them to pay more.

Do you have another job on the other two days per week? What is your hourly rate for that job, if you have one?

It all really depends on how much you need the work at the weekend and whether you think your employer is prepared to pay you more.
