Mothers helps question

I'm thinking of hiring a mothers help to get me through the first few weeks of having two under two and was wondering what do mothers helps do exactly? Are they qualified childcarers or are they sort of housekeepers / nannies?

they are literally a mothers help so will do what you ask them to do from light housework, ironing cooking etc to help with the children and sole charge in some cases.

Wow sounds perfect? OK next question - to quote Desperate Housewives - "Where can I score some high grade mother's help?"

You can go through agencies or just start putting up signs in your local newsagent. Don't know where you live, but in London they don't come cheap. Usually about £7/8 per hour if not more - depending on any qualifications they might have. £7/8 would just be for an aupairy type girl looking to make extra money.

mine is the cleaner we had when we were both working. SHe is about 30 and from slovenia. She is bored of cleaning people's houses now i think.
Sh ecomes 3 times a week, mon 3-5pm-6pm thurs 1-5or6pm and fri 3-5or 6pm
on thur she does a full house clean first.
It has honestloy saved my sanity
SHe is great, she cleans as she arrives, does a bit of washing up/tidying/washing machine etc. She plays with ds1, sticking, catch, drawing, colouring in or just general helping with lego and reading etc. She will change nappies and hold ds2 if he is awake and needing a cuddle.
Some days when i was very very tired at first, she looked after ds1 when ds2 was asleep and i had a bath- very theraputic.
I pay her £7/hr and we are both pretty flexible.
Saved my life i reckon

I have one she is fabulous

she has no qualifications whatsoever and can barely read so is useless for teaching the dds stuff. She is also a crap cook.

but she loves them both dearly, cleans my house, does my ironing, plays with them and will drive them around if need be. She is fab and totally flexible.

Nannies Plus is an excellent nanny agency in Edgware that I used to work for. give them a call and see what the rates are.

mine can't speel in english and has an accent, but as you say she loves my children and i love her becuase she is so kind to them. She is rubbish at discipline and stuff like that, but she tidies and cleans and laughs with them
