LoveMyGirls - I know someone who had something similar to you, and there wasn't a problem. Good luck!

Lovemygirls: as far as a decision goes, I think that they tell you straight away - my inspector told me straight away that that I had passed my inspection.

Good luck for Wednesday...

LoveMyGirls · 09/01/2006 08:06

i didnt think they would tell me straight away because my criminal record needs to be checked - though theres nothing on it wont they have to see that first?

I was registered in May and when they did the inspection for this, they told me then that my house was ok, if not, they tend to tell you what needs doing. You do have to wait for CRB checks etc. but as long as they are happy with the property, they are usually ok (you'll know if you have a criminal record ). As for PND, I had this with ds and although didn't try and overdose, I did tell the HV that I wanted to end things as I felt so bad. This didn't affect me at all and I'm sure you'll be fine - it's a hormone imbalance that you couldn't help and it was 6 years ago (mine was less than 2 years before I registered).

Best of luck for Wednesday, sure everything will be fine!

Jensmum · 10/01/2006 13:06

lovemygirls - I was in a similar position as you (PND) and was really worried they wouldn't find me suitable to look after children, I rang them when I found out about the medical forms and got told that it depends on what your GP writes they are usually satisfied that it wont affect your ability to look after children if they are not satisfied with what your GP writes then you have to go and see their doctor for an evaluation.

They also told me that it is vary rare for someone to get refused on medical grounds.

I think as it was 6 years ago you shouldn't worry about it, with me it was only about 2 years and it didn't go against me!!

Make sure your antiseptic wipes (in first aid box) are alcohol free, try the savlon ones. Also don't have any sprays, potions or lotions in there as they don't like them (children could drink them)

I know you'll be nervous but try to relax, they should give you some sort of indication if they're going to register you or not

Good luck

Hi thanks for your replies everyone, well its the night before and the house is not as immaculate as i would have liked but i've got a few hours to go yet! i've almost finished my portfolio and i wanted to ask a question - ok well a few......

what do you do with the kids when you go to the toilet or one of them needs the toilet?

How much television is ok for them to watch as i was thinking of letting them watch a bit while i prepare lunch and put the baby down for her nap?
thanks again ill let you know how it goes.

Toilet - run like crazy and do it as quick as you can!!

In reality, I've got a downstairs loo, thankfully, so it makes life a lot easier. The children tend to follow me, although I do not encourage group participation! If I have to help another child, again - the rest of them tend to follow us. Obviously, I don't take non-mobile children in there, but I can easily hear them from the loo.

I don't think a short time of TV would be a problem, so long as it's suitable viewing. I've parked toddlers in front of the TV before now if I've been unable to eat my lunch at the same time as them (perhaps too busy feeding baby or peeling apples for instance), and I can eat in peace for 10 minutes (in the same room). Just don't have the TV on the whole time the inspector is there!

ThePrisoner · 11/01/2006 18:25

And ??? How did it go?

LoveMyGirls · 11/01/2006 18:36

it went really well!! i can have 2 under 5 and 1 over 5 - my house is tiny though! she was very impressed with my policies and portfolio and the only things she asked me to do was my first aid box and to check the patio table was safety glass. she said if my health records are ok i should get my reg certificate should come through in about 4 weeks which is brilliant as my mat pay runs out in march so i needed to have plenty of time to advertise.
she said i had been very honest about my health rocords and she wouldnt think there would be a problem.
