I started a new live in nanny position three weeks ago and I want to qut already. Last week by my reckoning I should have been paid overtime as mum wants me to go to DS when he wakes up inthe morning and give him his toys if he wakes up before 7am then at 7 get him ready for the day. He normally wakes up between 6 and 6:15 but mums only counting my working hours from 7. And to top it off every morning when we finally get downstairs the kitten is a mess from mum and grandmothers dinner from the night before that they haven't even bothered to clean up or load the dishwasher!
Should I just count my losses and go?

Have you talked with mum about it? If your agreed hours are 7-7 then that should apply, though being live-in you are around to help out outside of that time so it is tricky.

Are you their first nanny?

Yes. Cut your losses and go.

If you are an AP then mess in kitchen is for you to do when you start your shift, but not if you are a nanny (although my nanny is always doing this even though she knows she's not expected to)

If you are getting up before 7 then all the extra time should be recorded and charged as overtime.

If you've already challenged them on this then just go as it won't get any better. If you've ummed and ahhed and not said anything directly about overtime and dirty plates then say something direct about it and see what they say.
