CM considering becoming a nanny in a few years time but could I?

I have been a CM for 3 yrs now and whilst it works perfectly and I love it, I can't see me doing this forever. Not because I don't enjoy it but because I think I'll want my home back as our own children grow older.

So with that in mind I was wondering how easy it would be to make the crossover to become a nanny? I have some questions if anyone (parents/nannies/CMs) could answer.

Is there much demand for term time only nannies? This would be my ideal as I'd have to find childcare for my own 3 if not.

How much could I earn? I'm in East Berkshire.

Would I be classed as experienced or un-experienced? There seems to be a great deal of difference in the salaries of the two.

Could I register with Ofsted as a nanny more easily since I am already registered with them as a CM and have a CRB with them etc?

Many thanks for reading this- I appreciate any responses.

My friend is registered as my assistant (only a few weeks ago) and they said as she was already known to them she could register as a nanny (she only has experience as a mum no qualifications) so I would have thought being a childminder would go in your favour.

As a CM I assume you have your 1st aid, a childcare qualification covering the common core etc. You would just need to change your liability insurance and then it depends how recent your CRB is.

Are you already on the voluntary register by any chance? That would probably make things much easier. You can go on as a CM although I don't know the logistics of switching.

My gut feeling is you'd meet the requirements already so it would be fairly easy.

I don't know what local demand is like but term time nannies definitely exist. You would be inexoerienced but I don't think you'd count as an experienced nanny because the dynamic is different to CMing. If you took a midline figure it would he realistic!

Yes I'm on all three registers and CRB would be more than 3 yrs old so would probably need a new one. Even if its not required I would probably get one as it would be a plus when looking for a job.

Sounds like it will probably be simply enough then. I'll do some research into the local job market and get a better idea on salaries- I can't afford to be worse off. Midline figure sounds reasonable. Thanks.

I would love an exchildminder as a nanny you will have had loads of experience. Surely teach.ers would employ nannies term time only.

sunshinenanny · 06/11/2011 14:48

Term time only could be a problem as many people with school age kids want holiday cover.there are agencies that provide temporary nannies and other options though

confusedpixie · 06/11/2011 17:05

I've seen quite a few term-time jobs and barely any holiday-only jobs recently! The lack of paperwork is great, but it makes coursework a bit more difficult sometimes.
