She is old and probably unwell (have seen the vet and she thinks it is probably a tumour on her kidney) tho generally seems happy enough. But she is weeing all over the place. Anything left on the floor eg. a cushion, clothing, toys get weed on if I turn my back. I can't throw her out all day, plus as soon as I did let her in she would just wee somewhere anyway. But I am a childminder and can't have wee everywhere so what to do..?

have you a shed she could go in to keep warm or a cat box

Bamaluz · 04/11/2011 17:34

Does she have a litter tray?

I would shut her in one room all day while the chidren are there if possible.

plusonemore · 04/11/2011 17:47

could be cystitis. is she walking backwards too? (I am aware this sounds odd!!!)

plusonemore · 04/11/2011 17:52

and i seem to remember a vet telling me that cats prefer torn up newspaper to cat litter

If she has kidney problems it's not unknown for them to become incontinent, do you think it's deliberate weeing due to stress / illness or just that she dosn't know she is doing it?

The only thing I can think of is to restrct her when the children are there, you obviously cannot have wee everywhere and if it smells of wee you will soon have parents complaining.

If you get a dog crate you could restrict her during the day with a litter tray and then when the children are not there keep a close eye to clean any mess?

Rosiegirl · 04/11/2011 19:08

I was also going to suggest a large pet carrier/dog crate for when children are around.

My heartfelt sympathies, my dog is nearly 15 and is also becoming incontinent, so has to stay outside when I have the children here, or shut him in his crate. He has been so wonderful for all the children in my care over the past 8 years and its sad that he can no longer be around them, they all also miss petting and taking him on walks. Sad

There's a pet section in mumsnet that I have browsed in before - lots of expert cat-people who really seem to know their stuff. You could try posting in there...

I have a problem with cat wee too, but happily this is only in the downstairs loo where the cat likes to wee in the same place as the rest of us (does she want me to clap and smile, like I do for the children???). I am hoping to sort this with non-ammonia disinfectant which will smell horrible to her - but it doesn't sound like that would work in your case. Best of luck to you!!

my friends cat had this

putting rescue remedy (1 drop) in her water bowl made a massive differernce Smile

Just wanted to add to this thread (i'm not a child minder but work in a cat rescue so gatecrashing) that you can buy a litter called 'cat attract' that is designed to encourage the cats to use the litter tray due to the smell it releases.

Also cats HATE HATE HATE citrus fruits so if you sprinkle lemon/ orange juice in the places she is weeing she will avoid them, the peel also works really well for hidden corners etc.

Cats will not eat and wee in the same place so if it is one regular spot she is weeing you can put her food bowl there and she will not use it as a toilet.

Of course this all only applies if it is stress or upset causing the weeing, if it is incontinence or a infection no amount of 'solutions' will make a difference as she will not be aware she is leaking the urine and have no way to stop it.

Belated thanks for the replies. She did have cystitis, its what started this off originally. Thats better now but the random weeing started after that. Vet think she has a tumour causing both the cystitis and now this wierd weeing. poor thing. Will try citrus and a few other suggestions here, thanks!

I’m a cm and my cat has a wee ‘issue’! He loves to pee on anything the babies have been on (buggies, bouncers, playmats, even car seats if I leave them around!), once when I was giving a baby a bottle while I was sat on the sofa, he casually walked in, climbed into the bouncer and had a wee while looking me dead in the eyes! It was as if he knew I couldn’t do anything!!
I now use a plug in cat thingy which reduces stress. I put him in my room during the day with his plug in, food, water and litter tray, he does love to sleep on my bed during the day so it’s no great hardship for him. In the evenings I put things into the buggies etc so he can’t climd in and have a sneaky wee and I make sure the baby toys are put away (I once left an Ikea box of toys out overnight and he weed in that, I had to throw the whole lot out),

I feel for you 💐

Sorry, I’ve just seen this is a ridiculously old thread!!

My cat wasn’t even born when this thread was started
