I haven't got that one on my policies (got a list of others so will add this).

I'd so no for sure and yes, I think you have to tell other parents!

I am not a CM. But I know a bit about worms (unfortunately).

Is the child toilet trained? Or in a nappy?

If they're in a nappy, it's pretty hard for them to give worms to your other charges, as they never get their hands near their poo, IYSWIM. As long as you're careful about handwashing and nappy changes (duh) it will be fine.

If they're not in a nappy, it's easier for them to pass it on, although less so if you're wiping their bottom.

The difficult bit is, if they've been coming while they had worms (but the parents didn't know), then you may already have worm eggs about. Worm eggs last at least two weeks. You need to be careful about towels and sheets (anything the child's bottom may have touched), and do more vacuuming.

The symptoms are a very itchy bum, particularly at night. And you can often see the worms in the poo.

thanks all,

mindie is not in nappies. I have a list of communicable diseases from the health authority. that says that the child must be excluded until the worms have been treated. so hopefully he can come back monday. I will have a huge hoover spree today i think and get all the towels washed etc. i'm pregnant as well and a little worried about the effects it may have on me.
so i think for the health of myself and the kids i've done the right thing

Yes you have! Have you researched if it affects pregnant ladies?

NotQuiteCockney · 16/12/2005 13:18

You can catch worms while pregnant. There's no risk to the baby, though. I don't think you can treat it while pregnant, so you're stuck with the hygiene fix, which involves being very careful to avoid reinfecting yourself, or infecting anyone else.
