Just wanted to ask if I have done the right thing by cancelling mindee today:

last night DS 3yrs developed a weapy eye which i put down to the decongestant he was prescribed, the eye look fine and so did the inner eyelids, this morning he has woken up and his eye was 'glued' shut, very red on inner lids and they are swollen.
am I right in thinking that this is highly contagious? (sp?), I should only have one mindee today ( a 9mth old) so I rang his mum to let her know and the reaction I got from her was "I notice that x has something on his eye yesterday and put it down to being just gunk, i will have to go through my phone book then to find somebody to look after him"(not in a friendly way) I can't help it if ds has this and have only had 2 days off ill including today in the last few months.
I have got him a appt this morning with nurse practioner.

It is very contagious. Change your towels every day if you dont already, and face towels and give littleone his own towel. I had this last week and it was not nice.

(I know that there are 2 sort of this and it depends on which one your ds has got).

Yes you did the right thing! Conjunctivitus spreads so quickly!

Don't worry about mums reaction too much........on tuesday I had to ring a parent as x who is 6 months old was coughing so much she was sick.....parents were not impressed but she was so sick!

Puppy, do you have a conjunk policy? If so you could refer the parents to it if they query it.

You did absolutel the right thing. In fact conjuntivis is one of things most nurseries won;t accept a child coming to nursery with.

MaryP0p1 · 15/12/2005 09:53

Probably better to make it a list on contagious conditions which children should not attend your environment with.

hello all, just back from drs with son, he has viral conjunctivitis and has been put on eye drops, the nurse practioner says that he is alright to goto nursery(even though it contagious? mmmmm) but I have decided to keep him off for the rest of the week (he has been off school since tues due to a very bad cough anyway)
DS has his own bob the builder towels and face cloth anyway, so that is not a prob, have put fresh towels out this morning after I saw him with it I have changed bedding too as sometimes he comes into our bed early in the morn.
I think mindees parent was probably tired and worrying who she would get to look after her DS, I don't as yet know any other minders around here that I could have referred her to, she is normally very pleasant and it was 6.45 when I ran her (1 hours before I was to have her DS)

I will update my illness policy after lunch and will send out a newsletter to the other parents to make them aware of the change.

Thanks all for your replies I really appreciate the advice I get on here
