Childminders Club: Those who have a website........putting Ofsted report on???

Another question before waking kiddie winkles........

Had inspection yesterday and intend to put report (when arrives) on my website with my references (which I'm about to publish). Ofsted lady wasn't sure if this was allowed but said a link to Ofsted site is (which I already have). I told her I've seen PDF files on other sites in the past and said what harm could it do if it's on Ofsted's site anyway?

Anyway, does anyone know for sure what's allowed? Would you just go ahead anyway (once the report is on Ofsted's site - and make sure all details are the same)??

I have a web site and I just put extracts of my inspection report on as they can be a little long winded. I dont see a problem with it.

I think I'll do it as I can't see why not either. I know what I get isn't a match of what they have on their website as they block personal details but everything else should be the same.

I think that they may be talking about copyright

Because it is in effect OFSTEDs report not yours even though it is publicly avaliable i think it needs to be from the "official" OFSTED web site IYKWIM....so therefore paraphrasing and linking is ok but actually having the full report on your site may not be

Think you should seek official advice on this

Oh, cheers for that - makes sense then! Will get a definate answer from Ofsted then!

Do you have your policies on your websites?

I was looking on ebay yesterday and people are selling copies of their policies so now I don't know whether to put mine on my website (when I get round to finishing it, it's at a stand still at the mo') or not

Would people copy them?

I don't know how I'd feel if someone "stole" my policies they took me ages, but i have given copies out to a couple of childminders I know who didn't know how to word it.

HellyBelly · 15/12/2005 14:17

Yes mine are on my website and dare I admit that I did get some help with bits from ebay but then I made quite a lot of changes too. I just had so much on my plate setting it all up whilst working nights and also building my site that I wanted some help with wording (always been better at ripping stuff apart and re-wording than starting things from scratch myself). All the policies reflect how I work and what I believe etc. and I still did a lot of work changing things and adding new policies. I'm sure the people selling them on ebay own the documents and are just trying to make some money out of their hard work (bit like me deciding to set up business doing the sites for childminders).

I'm sure other childminders do take idea's if they like something they see but to be honest, they are not competition so I'm not that bothered really. One of the childminders whose website I built used my exact policies for their site and just changed the meals and their personal details. This was fine by me (actually made my job easier ).

Sorry, just re-read and you asked if I have policies on my 'websites' - do you mean on the ones I build for others? If so, so far all the websites I have built have had their policies on.

I personally would recommend putting them on your site as I have had so many lovely emails from other childminders/parents who have commented on the content of my site saying that it's great to see all the information they would need before having to contact me. Someone decided they wanted me before meeting me, just based on that. That's just my opinion.

You do what you feel comfortable doing!

I'd be interested in knowing the offical Ofsted answer to this one, so if you do get an offical statement from then Helen, please do let us all know what they say.

I can't find a copyright statement on a report.

Now that they do have reports published on their website, I think linking to their's is quite acceptable. Also you have to give a copy of your report to anyone that asks, so I presume you can copy it, at least in a paperbased form. So why not include it in a brochure/website.

HellyBelly · 16/12/2005 10:22

Will put in portfolio with references etc. I'll contact them today (don't work Friday's) and get back to you

Sorry for the delay, only got round to phoning them today!

Right, Ofsted confirmed they have no problem at all with me scanning my own report and putting it on my website! They said no need to write in or anything so I'm going to do that tonight!!
