fab well done to you and dd, and yes if we cant boast about our kids who can we boast about, all for it me

redglow · 14/09/2011 18:16

Sorry being really thick here whats a childminding club do you all meet up somewhere ?

KatyMac · 14/09/2011 18:18

No it's just our 'staff room' so we can talk about work & life with others who understand the issues involved in being a childminder

redglow the CM club is where one of us starts a thread, to chat amongst ourselves, although of course anyone can join in

threads not entitled CM Club are more likely to be asking questions that parents/other care providers as well as CMs can help with

It sounds a bit complicated but it's not really

redglow · 14/09/2011 18:24

Thanks should really read small print more, this makes much more sense to the OP. Thankyou for explaining.

nbee84 · 14/09/2011 18:26

Congratulations KatyMac's daughter Grin

WoofToYouTooLady · 14/09/2011 18:27

bless you, always ask if you get puzzled, someone will help x

KatyMac · 14/09/2011 19:30

Grin well done

thebody · 14/09/2011 20:49

and Katy it sounds so lovely and ballet shoe sish, fantastic.

btw anorexic comment, dancers need to be fit and strong, the school will be switched onto this, eating disorders can happen to any body of any age and any sex at any vulnerable time, actually there are more anorexic and underweight middle aged women now than teens due to the influence of stick thin celebs like vikki beckham and sjp,, so my psychiatric nursing friend tells me..

KatyMac · 14/09/2011 21:08

TBH it's a bit scary

I mean we know she is good; but that good?

OP posts:
popcornchicken · 14/09/2011 21:47

Yes I know you have to be fit and strong. But my friend went there and when she put on a bit of weight, still not overweight, they said she had to be thinner, and as I said before ended up anorexic. This does not happen to everyone and I am sure katies daughter will be fine.

popcornchicken · 14/09/2011 22:02

Thebody it is very rare for anybody over 40 to get anorexia and the average age for the onset is 17 so not quite sure where your friend is comming from.

thebody · 15/09/2011 10:02

popcorn, i am an ex district nursing sister and as part of my training did a yeares psychiatric training. it is very commen now to see middle aged anorexics, my friend who is still nursing has commented on the changes she has witnessed regarding ages of eating disorders so not sure where you are getting your facts from.

this subject was also discussed on radio 5 by a senior consultant psychiatrist about 6 months ago, so you are misinformed.

thebody · 15/09/2011 10:05

of course as most of these women (and some men) have families it is more commen for them to be treated in the community unless at risk of death than be in a clinic so pehaps thats why you arnt aware of this, my friend works in this field.

KatyMac · 15/09/2011 16:41

La la la sticking head in sand

As it's not going to happen to DD, shall we talk about how much uniform she needs plus the train fares

OP posts:
thebody · 15/09/2011 16:52

of course not she will be fine Katy with a sensible mum like you, is the uniform really gulp, b all worth it in the end when shes on that stage.

KatyMac · 15/09/2011 18:42

It's not too bad as it's funded but I have to buy it all first which is the gulp bit; even tho I know I will get it back

HSMM · 15/09/2011 18:52

Long term interest free credit card is what you need KatyMac.

(Still smarting from spending £120 on exam wear last week)

KatyMac · 15/09/2011 19:00

Grin all max'ed out atm

Never mind; at least it's all funded, no way could we afford it otherwise

OP posts:
popcornchicken · 16/09/2011 10:02

Iam getting my facts from the clinic where my friend had to go that deals with it all the time not just done a few weeks training like you have the body. This has gone so of the point I really cannot be bothered, lots of luck to your daughter katymac, keep a close eye because my friends mum who was a sensible mum had no idea till it was too late. Anorexia is very comman in dancers and models so much competition out there.

anewyear · 16/09/2011 10:43

Great news about your daugther KatyMac Smile

"not just done a few weeks training like you have the body. This has gone so of the point I really cannot be bothered " Really??

Can I ask what area of work your in Popcornchicken?

popcornchicken · 16/09/2011 19:10

I cant be really bothered making the same point. If you are training to be a nurse how many actual weeks do you spend learning about anorexics. No you cannot ask what area of work I am in as this thread has gone totally of the point.

anewyear · 17/09/2011 08:44

I wondered if you were a childminder.
It seems most people have no idea what a childminder actually does and how lonley it can be for those working on their own, its good to be able talk to others in the same line of work. Share news, veiws, experiance.

The op came on here to share her daughters good news with "colleagues"
I sure the op thanks you for pointing out the anorexia/eating/dieting problems some ballet dancers may have, through your friends experiance.
If the thread has gone off the point, well who started that!!

Gonna hide the thread now.

hennipenni · 17/09/2011 12:26

Congratulations to your DD katymac, I'm glad you've had a little boast on here as those of us who have "known" Katymac for years would not be able to hear of this wonderful acheivement.
