How many older children do you have?

Your existing 2 plus this one would be 3 under 5......and you are allowed that?

agalch · 13/12/2005 07:57

Thats what im not sure of katy. reading my certificate it sounds as if i would be allowed to have 3 under 5 doesn't it? My sons are 14 and 10 so are away most of the day.New mindee would be here 9.30 till 2.30.

We if it says 3 under 5 and you are including you baby

then DD, Existing mindee and new mindee makes 3 under 5

Seems OK to me - if you are still unsure ring them to confirm

agalch · 13/12/2005 08:17

will do that i think just to make sure.Is it different where you are then? you sounded surprised about the 3 under 5.like the xmas name btw

No more concerned that you aren't sure

3 under 5 in England, would not inclde your own

so if you have 1 under 5 yourself your reg would read 2 under 5 (plus your child)

katymacracker · 13/12/2005 08:21

Your christmas name could be

Aaaaaggggggalit'sChristmas

I am in Scotland, and registered with Care Commission. With the two you already have under 5, you will be able to have the new mindee as well. When your baby comes, if you still want to do minding then you would only be allowed two nder five.

Example : I mind an 11 month old and his 2.5 yr old brother. Also have 18month old mindee.

agalch · 13/12/2005 08:31

saltire,if my dd is 2 and i have new baby of my own would i not only be allowed 1 other under 5? my brains really are mush . katy thats how i feel about xmas so it would be a good name

Sorry, didn't make myself very clear. At the moment you could have your own DD, plus the full time mindee you have, plus this extra short term mindee.
After the baby comes you will be able to have Baby, DD and 1 full time under 5. It doesn't matter if you have one baby and 2 under 2, as long as you just have 1 child under the age of 12months, and then you can have 2 under the age of five. When they do your inspection they put on your registration document how many you are registered for I'm registered for 6, which includes my two, so i can have four others at the same time.
Is that clear?

kizzypie · 13/12/2005 14:16

once your baby is born you could ask for a variation on your certificate to care for an extra under 5. Thats what im going to do when my babys born in feb. The care commission officer that done my last inspection said she thought this should be ok but ive to apply through the proper procedure to find out. She thought that on the grounds of continuity of care for all the children I already watch this would be ok, so I would nt have to get rid of any of the mindees to make way for my baby. That would change my registration to 6 children under 12 with up to 4 under 5 years old. Ill have to see what happens though. (im in Scotland too). You would only have your three under 5s inc. 1 under 1 so it isnt a problem. My certificate is worded to say 6 children including my own.

thanks saltire i get you now. My friend has just had inspection and was told by cc officer that any children under 16 will be counted in the registration numbers instead of under 12s. has anyone else been told that?

I was told that about under 16's when i first registered in Scotland 3 years ago, but, if my memory is correct, in England (under OFSTED regulation) it's children up to age 12 which are included in registration!!!

ThePrisoner · 13/12/2005 19:01

I was under the impression that we are registered to care for under 8s only, with insurance cover usually stating that we may only have 10 children in our care in total (which would include the over 8s, which are not mentioned on our certificates or by OFSTED).

agalch · 13/12/2005 20:19

If i am told that my numbers will be 6 under the age of 16,my kids are 14 10 16 months and im due sometime in the summer i ill only be able legally to mind a total of 2 kids, not worth my while if i only get after schoolers.may decide to give it up i think

kizzypie · 14/12/2005 08:20

my inspection report done in november says I am registered for 6 under 16s, but my certificate says under 12s. The care commission officer says its under 16s we are registered for now, they just havent bothered sending updated certificates. I think its just the care commissions usual lack of communication etc. To add a different question, did anybody get told they gad a registration number now because me and lots of other cms only found out a few monmths ago when parents started saying that the inland revenue were asking for them for their tax credit claims.

ThePrisoner · 14/12/2005 22:47

OFSTED issue our registration numbers.

saltire · 15/12/2005 13:09

kizzypie - i asked my inspection officer about registration numbers last year and was told by her that they will get round to issuing them, and that the parents have to put her contact number on the form for tax credits so that the inland revenue could call her and confirm. Haven't heard anything else, but am due an inspection in Jaunary so will aske her then.
agalch - if you are still not sure, then call the Care Commission, or the SCMA and ask their advice.
