Hi guys

Got mine next week and have downloaded the 'Are you ready for your inspection' document. I've done the self evaluation but I'm sure someone said that parents are supposed to complete something??????

Anyone confirm this please?

If it helps i didnt have anything and they didnt say anything but i did have references and they saw my diary that i give to my parents.

HellyBelly · 08/12/2005 11:32

That's ok then although I'm sure Theprisoner mentioned something recently??? I've got very good references from parents so hopefully this will do. They'll also be able to see the diary I write.

Theprisoner - if you read this, can you please confirm what that form was that you mentioned parents complete? Or tell me I'm talking out of my a*se if it's not you

Thanks so much, hopefully i can ignore this then. I'm in a right state about the inspectionm it's doing my head in! I'm 100% happy what i do with the children, their safety within my house etc, it's the paperwork that's really worrying me! Oh well, we all have to go through it don't we, sounds as if i now have one less thing to worry about

Thanks for that!

Hi Helly!! Don't get here during day coz I'm too busy with children, sorry (am I the only one with any mindees these days?? Better keep my head down!).

My last OFSTED inspection was a couple of years ago, and parents filled in evaluation sheets for OFSTED. It seems that this doesn't happen any more (except Scotland then?), but I'm only saying that because nobody seems to get them now, not sure what the official line is. (And nobody at my Big Important Childminding meeting knew anything either!!)

HellyBelly · 08/12/2005 19:39

Hi TP, I didn't expect you to reply til this evening as I know you aren't around, just some people pop on at lunch etc so I wanted to ask the question - I've been in a bit of a state! Yes, I have reduced mindees by a lot but still have the one - just that they always turn up late in the morning so I get to chat a lot then. I just leave it in the background when they arrive (got broadband) and every now and then pop on and check. After all, I get shouted at when I don't look at my emails when they arrive (a snail shoots onto the screen when one arrives and the kids shout SNAIL. It's very cute and they go on til I remove it so I usual check on mumsnet then!!!).

Thanks for your info, hopefully I will not have to worry about that!

I've done a permission form and got it signed this evening. Do you think I've covered everything?

"Pop on" at lunchtime - oh I wish!! I've got really young mindees at the moment, and lunch now consists of spoonfeeding three little ones. My lunch is now eaten when I park at the school in the afternoon and they're all asleep!!!

My permission form also includes:

Able to seek emergency medical assistance or treatment.
Able to take photographs/videos (of child).
Can be taken out in my vehicle.
Can apply suncream (yes, this one annoys me too!)

I have a general "can be taken on outings", with swimming listed as a specific extra.

Also included on my form is a request for them to sign that they have seen my registration certificate, public liability and vehicle insurance certificates; and that they have been given copies of my policies (and I list what they are).

When I first joined our network, parents were also asked to sign one of their forms to say that a co-ordinator had permission to make observations of me and, possibly, their child. I now include that on my own form.

And I've also got an adult trike, so I ask permission to take little ones on the toddler seats on the back!

What else ...

Tan1959 · 08/12/2005 21:57

Hellybelly - I had my inspection quite recently and only completed the self evaluation form but was not asked about a form for parents to complete. Hope this helps.

Good luck for next week - I was so nervous when I had mine but inspector was just lovely....

HellyBelly · 09/12/2005 09:02

Cheers Tan. How did your meeting go the other day?

I'm really nervous about the paperwork and I am nervous about having someone sitting and watching me with the kiddies - I do many embarrassing things to entertain the children - not embarrassing normally but would never do in front of another adult if you know what I mean . Not sure whether to just be myself and just feel a bit odd or to leave that out for the one day??

Anyway, got 3 days now to sort out the paperwork side (don't mind on Friday's or weekends!)

Hellybelly: good luck tomorrow if your Ofsted inspection takes place - I will be thinking of you - I did have a little chuckle when you said you do many embarrassing things to entertain the children - but would never do in front of another adult - I can really identify with you when my ofsted inspection was taking place, I was almost praying that my little mindee would not start saying ride on horsy Tan Ie me prancing around on all fours with her on my back

HellyBelly · 13/12/2005 13:45

Thanks Tan, all done!! I did get asked to do some things but not the really embarrassing ones (luckily!! )

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like to do these embarrassing things in front of other people - I used to be ok but the looks I got from the older children made me feel really silly

Off to make a cuppa now as I'm gasping!!

How did it go? what did you get?

which things did you have to do?

HellyBelly · 13/12/2005 18:55

Hiya Pecka - just about to put my embarrassing ds to bed (yes, played up big time today for the inspector, how nice of him - must really love me yeah!!!! )

Anyway............got a Good overall with 2 Outstanding.

Can't remember which of the comments were off the record tips or which were actions but one was I need a separate towel for each mindee or they share and they get changed every day (currently I've been changing every week so they share for 4 days then it gets changed - not good enough ), other was a snack was given at one point without hands washed (mindee had just arrived and wanted a banana and because I'd washed ds's hands THEN got the banana's, I forgot mindees hands). Not to use the word 'Don't' - I said in a nice voice 'oh no, don't do that sweetie......blabla..' but I was told we shouldn't use the 'don't' word. Errrr, trying to think what else????? Will post if I remember. Get report in the next month.

At least ds didn't bite the inspector (I had a dream about this as a friend said they know a childminder who's ds bit the inspector )

Right, ds ready for bed so I can have a big drink and be relieved it's over and done with!!!

Oh yeah, one thing she said is because I have written permission from the parents for dh to look after mindee for shorts periods of time when necessary, I just need to write to Ofsted to tell them (they won't write back but it will be kept on their records!)

Thanks everyone who has helped with advice etc. since I became a childminder!!

Congratulations Hellybelly - you must be so relieved it is now all over and thrilled - pour yourself a big glass of bubbly and give yourself a pat on the back - so glad to hear that your ds didn't bite the inspector - I was worried that my cat would! since I had to have my other moggy put to sleep as he had cancer, my remaining one has become a bit territorial when strangers come into the home. The Inspector told me she has cats herself and kept asking me why I wouldn't let him in when he was scratching on window - oh by the way I don't mean to sound as though I am likening your ds to a cat of course

HellyBelly · 14/12/2005 11:18

Cheers Tan, well pleased thanks!

As for your comment about my ds being like a cat - PLEASE DON'T OFFEND MY CAT!!!!
