It would help if you said where you are based and also what routes you have tried so far to find a nanny - advertising, agency, websites?

anewyear · 25/07/2011 09:53

as annh said whereabouts are you?

sagarika · 25/07/2011 10:19

ooops!!! sorry. I am based in edgware, north west london
I tried gumtree, childcare.co.uk and findababysitter.com
haven't found the right one yet. very few local people. I am looking for experienced people (atleast 6-8 yrs experience). its better if other mums can recommend because i need to feel safe to be leaving my son alone at home. he's 10 months only

Experience is good but 6-8 years is a lot of nannying. You could find someone equally as good with less experience - and probably a bit cheaper. More experienced nannies may also be happier with more children to look after as a full day with one baby can be a bit boring for a nanny. Do you have any flexibility on the day that you need the nanny for? Generally, two days together (e.g. Thurs/Fri) is easier to find someone for than two separate days.

sagarika · 25/07/2011 12:47

unfortunately not. fridays off for me.so i will be at home on fridays. thursdays definitely will have to be at work. flexible with the other 3 days

fraktious · 25/07/2011 14:27

Nannyjob is also worth a look.

6-8years is a lot and will be quite expensive. Is the salary you're offering attracting the right calibre of candidate?

annh · 25/07/2011 16:43

So could you have a nanny on Wed/Thurs for instance, if you have some flexibility on days? What rate of pay are you offering, I think you will need to be near top end of the nanny range to attract someone with the experience you require.

sagarika · 25/07/2011 17:49

yeah wed and thurs ok. as long as they have a good reference its fine. atleast 3/4 years experience shud do.i dont mind paying good money if the nanny is good at what she does

Nanny might be a bloke Grin so may be good at what he does.

I feel it is quite unlikely that someone on here will just know someone who is looking for work in your area. It might happen but given people post on here from around the globe, it's probably not that likely. This is a discussion board, so I expect quite a few of us would happily give you our comments with regard to your current ads, if you were able to link to them.

Are your ads getting any responses at all at the moment? Are they getting some responses but you are finding that the people responding do not meet your criteria?

sagarika · 26/07/2011 09:43

correct nannynick, could be a guy but i am looking for a lady/woman. i know its unlikely but not impossible. somebody might know someone to recommend. despite being a discussion board i have seen mums recommending and helping each other(i mean recommending nannies/childminders). so i thought will try my luck.i am getting responses but very few who live locally and most are childminders not nannies.i want one to one attention for my ds, meaning i need a nanny.
so if anyone who's redaing this and knows someone pls respond.thanks

Beware of sex discrimination legislation....

sagarika · 26/07/2011 13:37

you r right fraktious, but i am not an agency or a company. private adverts can put forward their preferences and there is nothing wrong in it.

Why do you prefer a woman?

fraktious · 26/07/2011 14:20

Actually you're still on dodgy ground. You can employ or reject whoever you like but the SDA prohibits you specifying it on the ad, particularly as you have a DS so s7(2(ba)) doesn't apply to exclude a male carer.

sagarika · 26/07/2011 15:50

no, not "only august", from august as i am going back to work in august (from second week to be precise)

Although i respect your views, I dont want to start a debate on male/female, preference etc. so i will politely decline to respond to fraktious and captainnancy on the same topic

if anyone is interested/can recommend please send me a message

thanks

Try likeminders.co.uk - I don't have shares, honest! But have found them extremely handy for part-time/ad hoc childcare.

sagarika · 27/07/2011 12:20

Hi Sagarika,
I reached this thread while looking for a Nanny for my ds. I am guessing my now you must have found a Nanny for your child.
It will be really helpful if you could let me know the agency / website that you found helpful and finally got a nanny from.
Please feel free to message me if you dont want to post in the public forum.
