i shall be childminding a 13 mth and a 6 month come feb and wondered whether i provide the 6 month old feeds [food] as they are still weaning him and should i be expected to make up separate food , puree.blend/mash etc everything for the baby or should i ask parents to provide their feeds until maybe 8/9 months when they are able to have more or less what we are all eating plus i have my two [6 yrs and 4 1/2 yrs] so ill be making too many meals as my ds has restricted diets.. there will be so many diffferent meals going on and id rather we all ate the same[ stops any further problems!!]
what does everyone else do as i`ve not had a baby before that young..only a 10 mth old that ate everything and was wonderful..

I on the other hand wouldnt find this a problem at all.

I would make sure i only gave food that has already been tried and tested at home for allergies etc.

Dosent take much to throw some veges/fruit/chicken etc in the steamer for a few mins and blend.....make bulk and freeze in ice cube trays then bag up when frozen.....hmmm sounds like a lot of work but can be done while cooking normal meals ...promise

Its your choice whether you want to offer meals or not. Like happymum, I used to ask parents to provide baby meals until the child was eating "proper meals". Now I give parents the choice, as I do with the older children. Some like to provide their own meals anyway, but others are happy to pay for me to provide them.

So I now offer toddler meals (as long as they have started weaning at home & tried several foods repeatedly). I would always discuss with parents what they eat at home. Allergic reactions don't always occur when a particular food is first eaten.

I offer baby food too - all home cooked / organic etc, it is really easy as I just chuck in a few more veg when I do the others dinners and freeze the left overs for when I have the baby next.

We use a diary, and the parents put in there when they have given a new food and if I can then offer it.

I offer both the choice ofhome cooked meals, jars or them providing their own food.

I really like preparing all their food as i know that they are getting stuff.

the trouble is that the food that we normally eat and what id give to a 13 mth old i couldnt give to a 6 month old as we use herbs and spices and garlic a lot with mediteranean influence/olives/pickles/ my kids grew up with it as the norm and so have all the other childminded kids within reason as theyre usually older but its going to be too time consuming dont you think making batch freezing[ which i did religiously with my two] and i dont have much room in my freezer tbh..its not that i dont want them to have healthy meals [ thats all we have in our house anyway] but i think it could be quite time consuming and a fuss tbh [ i dont want to sound like a lazy childminder that cant be botherd ..take my word for it..im not!!]..how should i word it to parents about the fod issue and should i give them a price reduction if i dont provide their meals and then up it again in afew months?

Up to a year I give my parents a choice of whether I provide food or not. They usually do a combination of both (ie send food when my menu is a bit awkward for a babba and not when it's suitable)

As such I don't do a price reduction

But in your case I'd just say "what are you doing about food?......" and leave it as an open question - then you and she can discuss it and come to an agreement

Just ask the parent what theu want to do
