I'd be really interested to know, to see if my childminder is as competitively priced as I think she is.....

We have just arranged CM for DS1 & 2. She charges £40 per child per day [0730 - 6pm]. So when I back to work for 2 days a week it will cost me £160.

We are in Sth East London. I believe the local nurseries are all around £50 - £60 per day.

Curlyfrizzball · 28/06/2011 17:56

Our childminder charges £4 per hour (south east). This is about average here for a childminder - nursery is more. Friends about 10-15 miles away pay £6 for a childminder though - very much depends on your area.

Don't know we would afford more than one child - wouldn't be financially worth working then, but we also can't pay the bills on just one salary.

Having said that, our childminder is brilliant and worth a lot more than what we pay!

£24 per day, Childminder 7.30-6.30pm although does not usually stay that long. Meals included.

£5 drop off before school or £5 pick up after school, breakfast and tea included if DS is hungry (he usually insists on breakfast before going).

Live in rural area though, not in south east.

DS is starting at a CM in a few weeks. £55 a day 8am - 6pm (and even though I'll be picking him up at 5pm we pay the full day fee). Less then full days she charges £6 per hour. We have to pay when she is on holiday too, and up to 5 days a year if she is ill, and bank holidays even though she is shut. But at least it is only a couple of minutes round the corner, and she seems great. And it's average round here (North London). Still going to be worse off back at work then I was on maternity pay!

£35 a day for our excellent CM in Eastbourne.

Our London CM was £70 a day however.
We could afford because we qualified for tax credits. She was brilliant and had an outstanding Ofsted rating.

childminder we pay £3.50 an hr and he does a 9hr day and that includes all meals - he is there breakfast and lunch however i provide lunch and his dinner as he is just 10mths and still has mashed food and his dinner at 3.30pm and she does sandwiches/pasta etc for lunch and he has few bits of these as well for finger foods.

Nursery (which he will start sept) is £45 a day although he will only go 9hr its open 7.30-6 and thats what you pay for.

Here nurseries were from £30-£50 a day for 7.30/8-6pm and

childminders £2.50-£4.50 an hr and some provided food and others didnt

countrylover · 02/07/2011 08:34

£5.50 per hour for a childminder - 8.45am - 5.45pm for DS2
£7.50 per hour for an after school childminder 3 - 6pm for DS1

I'm still not quite sure why my after school childminder gets to charge more though. Meals are included with for with both.

I live in London.
