Hi !

I'm about to take on 2 siblings for 2 days, one is 2 years old and the one is 4 years old.

The little one will stay with me all day and the 4 years old is going to attend a playgroup for 2 hours and a half.

I dont have to provide meals, just snack.

I'm leaving in Putney.

What will be the right price to charge ?

Thank you so much for your help.

No idea what the going rates are for your area but Im NE Herts I charge £4 per hour per child even the siblings Ive got, they howecver are after schoolies and term time only..
I would be inclined tho to ask £4 per child coz the eldest one is still taking a space!
some of the childminders I know offer a discount, one for exmaple offers 5% another tho 10%
hope this helps :-)

I charge a daily rate and both children would pay the full rate. You need to research your area.

childminderindistress · 20/05/2011 09:38

In my area, they charge between 60 and 70 pounds a day, I was thinking of charging 75 pounds a day for both, 85 pounds a day during half term but I have been told I was too generous.

Putney - £7 per hour per child with no sibling discount and full fee paid whilst elder child was a playgroup.

childminderindistress · 20/05/2011 11:44

ok so I'm very generous, don't you think ? So you'll charge 140 pounds per day then for 2 children. Thank you for your help !

I'm just Shock at how much CMs get in your area. I've got a sibling starting and I'm not charging whilst he is a preschool (3.5hrs) as the mum has to pay the full £10.
The eldest sibling gets a 20p discount.
And for a full day (9hrs) for both of them it comes to £60.

Don't know how anyone can afford to live around London!

no discount for siblings

full fee whilst at pre school

£4 ph (rural SW Eng)

looneytune · 20/05/2011 13:55

I charge my standard hourly rate for siblings as they are still taking up a space and if anything, are actually harder work (sometimes fight more!). I also have an 8 week notice period instead of 4 weeks for siblings. I charge whilst they are at preschool or nursery too as they are still taking up a space and are usually needed in the school holidays.

childminderindistress · 20/05/2011 14:04

So 75 pounds when I could be earning 120 pounds is a big mistake. :-(

looneytune · 20/05/2011 14:05

Don't under sell yourself, you'll regret it!!!

SarkyLady · 20/05/2011 14:14

I'm a parent and I've never received a sibling discount (and wouldn't expect to). There is more risk associated with siblings because you could potentially lose a big chunk of your income if they both give notice. The only (small) advantage is that there are fewer parents to deal with.

IME most CMs would charge during play group.

childminderindistress · 20/05/2011 14:29

Too late, I have undersell myself because I'm an idiot, a big one at that..:-(
She is a friend of mine so I wanted to give her favour, also I need her to change her day (she can) because in september the eldest will go 2 days in pre-school, she only want to use me for before and after school which will cost her 67 pounds for the 2 children instead of 75 pounds, for the sake of 8 pounds she doesnt want to mover her days even if the price is still reasonnable.

I have made a big mistake and now I have to live with the consequences !

don't beat yourself up, you can gradually increase your prices/change the terms of the contract at review

we all have to make mistakes to learn, yes?
