What do you do if a child is repeatedly dropped off with a dirty nappy - which seems to have been dirty for quite a while?
Gross I know but you can sort of tell when a nappy has been on a while, also red bottom from having poo close to skin.

I think someone else on here had this problem once and managed to deal with it.

Have you mentioned it to the child's parents?

Could you do a general letter to parents saying please could all children come dressed and ready to start the day including those who are in nappies please come in a clean nappy as we are very busy in the mornings getting ready for school and activites and do not have time for everyone to be changed and dressed here - obv if a child poos before once with you, you would change them.

I think its awful they dont change them only time I didnt was when we were on way out door to go swimming and its 5mins drive from house and knew I was going to be changing him imeediatly we got there - otherwise I change as soon as hes done.

Parents say they don't have time

They MUST make time then! I would explain that this is actually making their child's bottom sore.
Could it be that the child does the poo in the car on the journey to you?

nannynick · 11/05/2011 13:28

A friend of mine has had similar trouble with one of the children she minds. Mentioning it to the parents sometimes get a result for a while but then it slips again.

Don't think there is much that you can do alas. Change the nappy on arrival.
Why some parents can't change a nappy when their child wakes up is beyond me... it doesn't take long.

Mind you, some children refuse to have their nappy changed and put up a fight - so if it's an older toddler then it can take longer for them to cooperate enough to have their nappy changed.

yeuk.. sometimes it cant be helped if a child does it in the car but if every day then they are trying it on...

if I had to leave for a school drop off then I would tell the parent to change the child in my setting while I was putting the other children in the car.. obviously thats if it happened a lot..

like eastmidlands idea of a letter.. otherwise dont think a l;ot you can do otherwise unless real neglect.. sounds more like lazyness to me but poor child..

eastmidlandsnightnanny · 11/05/2011 16:01

They dont have time is not an excuse!! I would rather be 5mins late for work than have my child in a dirty nappy I would be so embarassed if dropped him with childminder with a dirty nappy and actually if he did it in car on way I would smell it and change him myself when we got there - its not fair for first job for childminder change poo'y nappy.

CarGirl · 11/05/2011 21:40

When they drop child off something of the lines "oh she's got a dirty nappy you need to change it now", perhaps preceeded by a newsletter stating that dc should be dropped off with clean nappy on.

Saltire · 11/05/2011 21:40

They don't come by car, they live in the next street so walk round. I think it's laziness, TBH. But then I don't have luck with my parents. but as someone kindly pointed out to me, maybe it's me not the parents that choose meGrin

Seriously I think you need to say it's against your policy to accept a child in a dirty nappy, check the nappy in front of them and ask them to change it before they leave. Hopefully they will eventually get the hint that it will be easier for them to change it home rather than leaving it for you to deal with.
