Ofsted inspection for my private home?

I've just discovered that that Ofsted might want to come and inspect my house in connection with our nanny's Ofsted registration. I didn't know this was part of the process, just thought the registration was about her background checks etc and being entitled to childcare vouchers.

Can someone give me a brief idea of what will be involved? Am a bit alarmed!

Is this in connection with an application for Ofsted registration or is she already registered and they want to do an inspection? I don't believe Ofsted visits applicants for "home childcarer" registration, but they do inspections of something like 10% of people on the voluntary childcare register each year and that does include home childcarers (aka nannies). They should seek written permission from the householder first, but they wouldn't be inspecting your home - they will only be focused on the nanny and whether they're meeting the childcare register requirements, and it's essentially a tickbox exercise - they don't give a grade, just meeting/not meeting the requirements, and if they're not meeting them this is pointed out and they're asked to do X, Y, Z in order to meet the legal requirements in future (such as get first aid qualification updated, don't smoke or drink around children, etc) if they want to stay registered. Since it's entirely voluntary to be registered as a nanny they can't exactly enforce the legal requirements with threats! There's more information on the forms and guidance section of the Ofsted website if you're still after more clarification of the process.

I'd tell them to meet the nanny elsewhwere. If they want to check up on her and registreation requirements that's fine. But, not on my time, and not in my house.

(but then I am staunchly opposed to ofsted having anything to do with nannies so I'm not very cooperative)
