What's the going rate for nannies in NW London?

Can anyone give a steer on the going rate for a nanny in NW London (Kensal Green)? I've 2 daughters, (10 months and 3 years) for whom I need childcare 9am-6pm four days a week, although the 3 yr old will soon be at nursery, so there will only be the younger one to look after between 9am-3pm during term time.

A bit of googling seems to indicate that rates vary quite a lot from about £7 to £12 net per hour. Once I've added on the tax it's quite a lot of money given that I need 36 hours a week. Is it reasonable to go for the lower end of the (£7-£12) range as there will only be one child for most of the day during term time? I want to offer a decent, competitive rate but am daunted by the cost at the higher end.

Also, to help manage family finances, I'd like to pay the same weekly rate every week (i.e. not changing during the school holidays). Is this common?

Not sure on rates, have a look on job sites like NannyJob. Though I do expect you are right that £8.50-£15 gross may well be a range. Generally I'd say that I would expect it to be more £12-£15 range for a qualified, experienced nanny.

Remember to agree a gross salary - Net to Gross calculator

You want 9am-6pm four days a week, so the pay will be the same every month (give or take, given the way PAYE works). If paying say £12 gross an hour, then you would be looking at an annual salary of just over £22500. Employers NI addds £2133 (2011/12 tax year) then you need to factor in the other costs that may be applicable to get your total annual cost. See Example Costs of Employing A Nanny
