Hi - mnetting nannies Grin

I am thinking of employing a new nanny who has a couple of years hands-on experience but no formal qualifications. I am not worried about her dealing with any educational development of my children (ages 1 and 3) as I'm sure nursery and school will handle this side of things perfectly competently, but would like to know that she's up to speed on current thinking ref behavioural development etc. Are there any books you could recommend that I could pass over to her (and also read myself) that are accessible for novices in this area? TIA..

The textbook for the new diploma would probably cover everything, possibly in too much detail for things like the EYFS but it is the latest book.

Diploma textbook

This is the latest edition of the book I studied from, which was very good and acessible.

EYFS is good for looking at milestones they are expected to meet at certain ages. That might help. As long as she understands that all children are different.

The EYFS website has loads of info. There are also links to etraining and lots of examples of best practice. nationalstrategies.standards.dcsf.gov.uk/earlyyears

I would wonder if having something that focuses more on using play to get children to cooperate would be beneficial, such as Playful Parenting which also covers emotional development though using play to help children through fears they may have, or difficult situations they have/or are about to face.

Oooh that looks like a good book nick

Yeah, I recently got it for Kindle, after someone else on Mumsnet recommended it. Very good for helping me remember to try to make things into a game and make time for rough-and-tumble.

That's great - thanks very much.
