Question re: care for children over the age of 8

Hi all,

I've completed my childminder training, first aid course and have had my pre-reg visit. I'm just now waiting for 'the call' from Ofsted (arghhh!)

I've had a couple of enquiries already (yey!) and one of them is to care for 2 boys aged 8 and 10 on occasional weekends - which I'm happy to do.

However, they need help before I will be fully registered. My question is: if I make sure I have insurance in place with NCMA am I able to care for these boys before I am on the voluntary register or not?

It's all very confusing!

Thanks

Care of children who have reached the age of 8 years is not regulated at all, so yes you can care for both of them without any issues.

However their parents could not use Childcare Vouchers or Tax Credits to help pay towards the cost of care, as those can only be used to pay a registered childcare provider.

Thanks Nick - I though I was on the right lines!
