Further to this thread, I thought I'd start a new one asking what you all provide for snacks? What you offer for breakfast and what fruit you offer?

TIA :)

Hi there, I am quite lucky because most of my children come with a food bag,(mentioned on the other thread).
However, I would offer the following as snacks;
bread sticks/shop brand crackers and value cheese - chunks,
carrot sticks/cucumber,
apples and cheese,
bananas,
tinned value pineapple(really lovely!)
rice cakes,
cheesy biscuits,
grapes (sometimes),
home made cookies (gets the baking experience too!)
buy big bag value raisens/sultanas,
fruit loaf as a treat and for a change,
toast with spread(yummier than you would think).

Also, when you take on further children, mention what they need to bring. All my parents provide wipes nappies etc.
I take a nappy out of each of their changing bags first thing so I am prepared. And I have wipes, just try and remember to use theirs.
Hope this helps.

In the house today we have

  • apples
  • oranges
  • bananas
  • grapes
  • raisins
  • celery
  • cucumber
  • carrots
  • mangoes (but only because DD smiled sweetly at me in the supermarket)

So they will have some of these with their morning snack/lunch/afternoon snack.

I also have some lovely wholemeal pittas, which were on special offer at the shop.

Cheese is sometimes cheaper if you buy a big block ... and it will freeze.

Sorry I never got back to this when you've taken the time to reply, I was busy sorting some of my other problems out to try and sort this mess out! I'm off this week and so will be making a decision and contacting parents soon.

Can I just ask at snack time whether you let them choose out of what you have or do you just plate up what's on offer and they take what they want from that? I do a bit of both at the moment but wondering if it should be me who always decides? I.e. after their meal they get fruit and yoghurt and I've always asked which fruit they'd like (out of the 8 listed on my other thread). And how much do you allow them to have? I.e. one piece of fruit or more?

TIA :)

A bit of both, but mostly I prep a plateful of fruit/veg/whatever and put it in the middle of the table. I supervise loosely. Sometimes they will get an apple (ie) each to much away on. If I prep a sharing plate, I get less wastage and I can also add more if they eat it all.
